The SNES Classic Edition is still a fantastic little emulation machine, even seven years later, thanks to the modding scene. Today I want to show everything mods have to offer, and how you can get started modding your own SNES Classic!

Well you've sold me. Time to spend an hour or two tinkering with my SNES mini and then feeling like have nothing to play!

I _reeeally_ wanna mod my SNES classic, but I've been worried that I'm gonna F it up, killing my console in the process. This video is the first one I've watched that doesn't make the Hackchi+Retroarch installation/set-up seem intimidating! Its simple, well spoken, and concise, without a million clicks showing us all the intricacies and things that most people will never use.
I'm gonna have to get one of those USB host thingys ..but when I do, *this* is the video that I'm gonna come back to! Thanks again d00d👍🏻

I got one of these as a birthday gift this year and I modded it a month ago. It's even cooler than it was when I first got it! :D

When it comes to these types of mini console mods, I try to keep it as stock as possible. The farthest I usually go is to add 5 or 6 more games onto it, (Chrono Trigger, Super Mario All Stars, etc) and calling it a day. I like to make it look like those games were there in the first place, with the copyright info and all. I also just find the folders to look ugly and unnatural for my kind of set up.

I had an SNES classic edition and i sold it as due to money concerns. Now I'm in a better condition and will buy it again.

Fantastic video. Literally thought about when the last time I did an update to my SNES Classic and pleasantly surprised to see a very well constructed video detailing anything new and a few tips such as regarding putting GBA games on there.

I have neo geo, Genesis and TG-16 games added to mine, and I still constantly go back to play them this way vs any other because I love being able to turn on a physically present console that is authentic from Nintendo, grab an authentic SNES controller, and play. I got the NES classic and put master system and some Atari games on that one, and I also have the Sega Model II mini console but that's not currently easily hackable...

TIP: if you want more console/folder icons, click on Structure, then click on Folder Images Set, then change it from Default to ''Faustbear'' whatever that is.

Hakchi2 is awesome and incredibly simple to use for NES, SNES, and both Genesis minis.

I did this two years ago after my original Switch died just to add more SNES games. Never saw that other systems could be emulated on this mini console. That’s interesting.

These things are FANTASTIC when hacked!! They function JUST like a Raspberri Pi or Android Box, but even better! The interface is just so slick & easy to use. Makes a freaking fantastic all in one box!

Another option, especially if you don't already have an SNES classic, don't want to mod it, or don't want to buy a bunch of add on parts like memory cards, etc. is to get a Datafrog SF2000.

An SF2000 with two wireless controllers is on Aliexpress for usually around $25 and plays NES, SNES (excluding Super FX and some Mode 7, they chug), Genesis, some Arcade, GB, GBC, and all but the most demanding GBA games. The ROMs are already included and it has pretty much everything, I've only added a small handful of games I noticed missing and they can easily be added to the "ROMs" folder of the SD card (DO NOT let Windows "fix" the SD card when you put it in your computer!). It'll also natively do composite video out to a CRT TV for a really authentic experience and has a built in screen to use as a portable device. It's not perfect, but it's hard to fault for how much it offers for the price.

I have both the SNES Classic and Genesis Mini Model 1. And yes, while I do enjoy the games that are listed there, modding them both can make both systems better and it's made me happy.

I modded my nes classic with the full nes library and absolutely love it. Haven’t even touched my snes classic collection and haven’t had a PC worth a damn since before the nes classic. Don’t think I’ll be doing this mod due to a pc investment needed.

I got the euro version of the SNES classic cuz I saw one pictured on a 3rd party controller box in a video rental store when I was kid in the late 90s. I modded it 7 years ago added a couple games and never touched it again lol! But I ended up getting in to CRTs and PVMs in 2019 to connect all my original (SNES, N64, Genesis, PS1, PS2) consoles in RGB and they look stunning!!! I'm a nerd into the real hardware and love how the old consoles look. But SNES classic is a pretty cool system for 99% of the population who prefers emulation.

You can use an external drive (usb or hdd) if you get a usb splitter cable (forget the specific name)

I bought mine the week it came out. Never even booted it before modding.
