9:00 That tall building used to be quite the eyesore. It’s currently known as the McKinley Tower Apartments, but older locals still remember it as the McKay building. It’s been around since the 1950s, meaning it survived the 1964 earthquake. The owner had unrelated legal troubles and the building decayed, eventually being condemned in 1983 I think. It sat vacant until the mid-2000s when somebody bought and renovated it.

When you consider that a good number of those "storefronts" are vacant, it's pretty depressing.

I drive through downtown almost daily. The historic 4th Ave theater is gone, it's just a large chainlink fence surrounding the exposed pit all the way to the corner. Most business's are open but not all. The streets are starting to get tourists now as we approach Spring who must sometimes walk over someone sleeping on the sidewalks, and store fronts, be pan handled by the homeless or those who are mentally challenged. Homeless tents spouting up across the city mostly next to the main roads, near parks and paved walking/biking trails. Some trash here and there on the sidewalks, but overall they're cleaned by the store owners or the muni. It's not the exciting frontier feel city I loved years ago. I don't know the answer but one thing is for sure, The Anchorage assembly will likely never have a homeless shelter or homeless provided hotel near their neighborhoods. If they can't see it from their home, The problem is not an immediate concern.

Live in the Matsu Valley. Anchorage is cool but lol man these roads at least most of them need to be repaved. The main Hwy going into and out of Anchorage when you drive down the center of the road listen to the road noise it causes, never realized that till a relative pointed it out. Most roads in Anchorage and AK will pretty much knock your fillings out of your teeth or at least loosen them. It comes with the territory. It's like the cold version of living in Mexico, all good the surrounding beauty makes up for lost teeth fillings. Peace
