10 Best Things To Do In Anchorage, Alaska | Day Trip Ideas!

Join us as we travel and spend one week in Anchorage, Alaska. In this video, we countdown our top 10 things to do in Anchorage, which includes day trip ideas. Anchorage is the northernmost city in the U.S. with a population of over 100,000. Alaska can receive up to 22 hours of daylight during the summer. We visited Anchorage in mid August.

This was our first time visiting the "Last Frontier" and was full of adventure. We explored places in town, as well as a few hour drives. The highlights include hiking in Denali State Park, a glacier boat tour from Seward, Alaska into Kenai Fjords National Park, salmon fishing on the Kenai River, and riding jet skis to stunning glaciers of Blackstone Bay in the Whittier, Alaska wilderness.

I went to Anchorage in order to get an endorsement on my pilots licence so I can fly a float equipped aircraft from a water runway. Did it at Lake Hood alongside the airport.

Great fun, had a blast, and I love the Alaskan "Can do" attitude to life.

I visited Lake Hood in July 2019 to get a float plane rating on my pilots licence, loved it, great experience. Now I'm planning a winter visit to add Ski landing experience.

If you do visit Lake Hood then the museum there is worth a visit and I suggest the Lakefront Hotel for food. Not cheap but by far the best in the area.

This is great--- I haven't been to Alaska yet and am turned off by the big cruises and tour groups. I'd like to do an independent trip and it looks like a great idea to use Anchorage as a base. Thanks for the great ideas! (And I bet Tim would say, "Why are you always 20 steps behind me?" LOL).
