i wanted a palette cleanse, so i hope you all enjoy. there is an extended cut on patreon where i discuss myths, theories, and debunks - if you're interested :)

SPOILER.
.
[this is from the extended cut, but i'm posting this section here]
Despite the intense dangers, it was not considered to be a “suicide mission” at the time. The men involved simply knew it was a task that needed done, regardless of the severity. And while a failure to act could have spread much more radiation across the area, the chance of a steam explosion causing a nuclear chain reaction that could “render Europe uninhabitable” is actively debated still to this day. While some physicists believe this could have been a nuclear doomsday, and some historians wonder if this could have sparked a possible WW3 – others argue that the conditions required to trigger and sustain a fission chain reaction have to be so extremely specific, that it would be nearly only possible through design. So to put it simply, some believe that Reactor 4 wouldn’t have turned into a nuclear bomb by accident. Again, though, that is just speculation ... speculation of an event that we are lucky to not have happened.

To emphasize, these men knew that going in there would kill them. But they did it anyways and ended up living

Those people and the other liquidator should have been recognised as not only soviet heroes, but European heroes as well.

theres a game made about these 3 men called the chernobyl liquidators. super cool and scary game. it does a really good job representing the stakes and how difficult their job was.

Thank You Alexei, Boris and Valeri. Thank You and God bless You! Also, thanks to all the other volunteers who sacrificed themselves by cleaning the roof from the radioactive materials. And others who took their part in it. God bless You all!
We dont know hpw bad it could have ended, thanks to these men we didnt find out.

Thanks Mav.

As a former Nuclear Power plant operator this hits home. We always trained for events like this. Chernobyl is constantly studied in the industry.

Always wanted to hear about Chernobyl NPP from someone like Nexpo or Maverick Files. Chernobyl is horrifying, because you can't see, smell, hear or feel thing that kills you.

This is the best intro music of literally any channel on YouTube

Stories around Chernobyl have been told and retold, but it's such a compelling event that each new take can be so captivating, and yours telling really is that.

If I had a nickel for every time that ordinary Soviet men saved the world from technical malfunctions, I would have two nickels, which isn’t a lot but it’s weird that it happened twice.

honestly, it was kind of a relief that the 3 survived. I've heard other stories of radiation sickness until death and it's so unbelievably sad. it's such a slow, painful torture

This scene in the Chernobyl mini-series was fucking insane

Thanks for clarifying that they survived. Really glad to hear that.

Thank you for shining a light on the story of these 3 brave men. Honestly, the word brave doesn’t even do these men justice, they did what needed to be done and didn’t hesitate.

Who else was overjoyed when they heard that they survived?

This is the earliest I've ever been for a YouTube video...and I can already tell by the title that this is gonna be a good one!

Kids these days cannot appreciate how far flashlight technology has come in the past few decades.

An interesting epilouge: When the Russians occupied Chernobyl in 2022, their forces dug trenches around the power plants. The problem was that doing so released radioactivity in the ground and those forces got ill due to radition poisioning.

Some become heroes because they are brave and not afraid of anything, and some just because all is lost.
But a few are true heroes, like those three man, that give without counting the cost
