Thank you for this information. Our friend who is in his late 70's just had a stroke this past Sunday - he is now in a coma and on a ventilator. Not sure, if he will recover.

I had a stroke. Left arm and leg weakness were my only indicators. My only lasting effect is some weakness in my left hand.

My father had a stroke in December 2017, 2 days before his 62nd birthday. Unfortunately he was alone at the time at home but he did manage to call my brother who came to him immediately and took him to the ER. The bleed was so deep in his brain that it was in operable and a wait and watch game. He did survive the initial stroke but never gained full consciousness again. He had wake and sleep cycles but was non verbal and developed complications in his eyes (dry eyes) he eventually passed away exactly 6 months after his stroke(likely from a pulmonary embolism). I wish anyone of us was there with him, perhaps we could’ve recognised any of these signs and got him to the ER sooner. I wonder if that would’ve changed his prognosis. I also wonder, was he in pain? Did he realise what was happening to him? Was he terrified? Did he have the most horrible headache? Did he suffer? I feel so much guilt over these questions and I will never know. I miss him terribly. He didn’t live to meet my 3 kids and the grief of this loss and what could’ve been, haunts me.

I've also heard of a sudden onset of a major headache that doesn't go away no matter what can possibly be another sign? Or is that for an aneurism?

❓ Hi Dr. Thank you for the information putting it out. It's so important to spread this. I do have a few questions ❓... How do you gell the difference in a strike and a diabetic episode. It would be good to inform us all about the symptons of a diabetic in distress. Also can a diabetic low symptomatic episode cause a stroke? Also, do you always have the face dropping during an attack? Are all of the things you mention have to be in place before it is definitely a stroke? I hope i just made sense. Thank you very much.

Doesn't always apply. My husband had a stroke and his only problem was the fingers on his right hand not working properly.
