At the end it was pretty obvious she was trying to say she felt more well treated compared to others with darker skin. She has a good point.

It’s not that she’s treated better than she should be, but that everyone else deserves that same treatment as her

As a Korean, I can’t deny… they sometimes even don’t recognize what they are doing. They treat differently darker skin people and, at the same time, say racist is wrong when they see the news that black people are discriminated in western countries. It’s very ironic.

At least she admitted to her priviledge. Many in her shoes will turn a blind eye and claim it doesnt exist.

I say this as an Asian person who visited Korea. They’re more friendly towards Westerners than other Asian countries. They’re not the nicest to darker skinned people

I'm Pakistani with olive brown skin, green eyes, and an aqualine nose. I was complimented for my eye color and nose but looked down upon for my slightly darker skin. I didn't care because I didn't find any of them attractive. They felt like factory robots to me with no personality or fun in them. They were getting eyelid surgery, nose surgery, chin surgery. They wore long sleeve shirts in the summer. I was bored in Korea so I left.

I love how self aware she is. Or observant. She notices she gets treated better than others based on her skin being lighter than theirs.

I'm a black man living in Korea for over 5 years. I don't get treated particularly bad here. I have mostly good experiences. But it's 100% clear as day white people who fit their beauty standard do get treated the best here.

Those who fantasize about kpop and kdrama have no idea the reality in Korea. They are VERY SUPER judgemental and will often say it in your face.

Let me get this straight. They will treat you based on your skin color/skin tone. The whiter you are the more respect you get from them but on the flip side if you have a darker skin tone, they will look down on you.

Treating someone worse because they look different or something as trivial as their skin being dark is the lowest of low of you can be as a human.

I’m a male Korean and I can’t say that’s not true. Especially the elders. They look at all the foreigners as if they are saying “why the hell he/she’s doing here” but when they see colored people it gets worse. Their whole aura says “get the hell outta here.” and they look down people other than white people. Many youngers do that too, though not to that extent. I didn’t realize my generation still do that until my work friends from latin american countries said to me that I have an open mind on the way I think, on the way I treat foreign people. It’s a shame we Koreans still discriminate people by their skin color in the age of globalization.

Their standards are too racist. If you are not too pale and very very slim. They just outright call you ugly

I remember a different interviewer who was interviewing Korean men in Korea and he asked them something along the lines of “Would you rather date someone who is okay in looks but has a nice personality, or someone who is gorgeous but has a horrible personality?” I kid you not, verbatim one guy answered “As long as she’s hot, she can be a b*tch and I wouldn’t care.” I was so shocked.

I'm going to be beautiful in Korea regardless of what others think. I'll be damned if I let a culture tell me my worth 😌🤚🥰

Update: went to Seoul and while yes everyone looks very beautiful, I also felt very beautiful and embracing myself as I was felt so liberating! Ngl, it was hard sometimes when everyone was so beautiful but comparison really is the thief of happiness ❤️‍🩹

She's speaking facts. Glad she was not afraid to call it out.

Well done for recognising your privilege and using this opportunity to call out the injustice faced by your friends due to racial discrimination! 👏👏👏

Don't go to a country where you won't feel good.

If it’s racism, it’s racism. Don’t try to mask it as beauty standards.
