14 PowerMesh Tracking Tips [Mocha Essentials]

Sometimes your PowerMesh just doesn’t want to track properly. This section covers some basic troubleshooting techniques you can use to get your results back on track.  These include choosing the right smoothness, thoughtful use of track mattes, and adjusting your shape prior to tracking.
First, we will discuss setting up helper layers and occlusion layers. Next, we cover creating the right shape for the task, where we talk about where the shape edges need to be and how to think about the subplanar motion. We will dover dealing with more extreme turns. And finally, we will cover manually adjusting the Mesh.

This exercise will not fix all of your PowerMesh problems but gives you the tools to move in the right direction.

Hi Mary and everyone from boris fx,
I follow all your tutorials one by one and I really enjoy how you go in depth with some issues. But I think powermesh would deserve a lot more attention, given that this feature is brand new and in a way works differently than the other features in Mocha pro. Certain things are still difficult for me to understand. For example, why am I making a mesh bigger than I really need? How is it possible that I can afford to adjust the powermesh by hand when it is so sensitive to the slightest movement? Why is it necessary to click on "unwarp" before importing into AE and how does warp and unwarp actually work?
I repeat, I am very grateful for how often and how well you create tutorials, you are my favorite youtubers: D.

Hey,
I have a problem with the powermesh.
whenever I try to render the Warp option render and there is a lot of layers other than the power mesh layer in the mocha panel, it never work! it only work if I delete all other layers except for the one with the power mesh data of course which is not convenient to work with as I obviously need the other layers tracking data. Any help?

I have a problem with mocha pro 22..I use After effects 2022 but there not showing mocha pro.. only showing mocha AE.

the subtract porion top of the mesh track not working for me.. that means not subtract the protect area which don't want to be track .. like shadow area, overlapping area.
any one pls help

Interesting, you didn't even set the hold outs/garbage mattes to subtract or transparent... Perhaps this is why it's not been working for me. The user manual did not answer that question for me :/
