In Ableton Live try something like this:
- Select every group & channel in your project and CMD/CTRL-G to group them all together. (call it Master Group or something & send the output to Main)
- Add your 2-Buss processing to the Master Group
- Insert an audio channel outside of that Master Group and call it SUBMIX.
- Set the SUBMIX Inputs to 'Master Group' & 'Pre FX' to exclude the 2-Buss processing from the Master Group.
- No processing on SUBMIX
- Lastly, select Monitoring to 'In' on the SUBMIX.

You should now have a parallel output with the SUBMIX acting as a simple level automation without interfering with the 2-Buss Processing coming from the Master Group.

Thanks for sharing: that's a great trick, especially for plugs that don't support automation internally! Oddly enough, one plugin I use a lot is just the freebee volume knob from Blue Cat Audio, since it lets me inverse-link volume changes before and after other plugins for easy gain matching while I adjust how hard I hit the front end of analogue gear emulations! Happy mixing!
