This is great. I do same thing. Trade the edges. If it goes past high or low I wait for it to retest previous high or low and take trade. Like you said you get caught in middle and you can get chopped up.

Which pre market levels though? Today SPY started at -0.55% ish at 4am. Went all the way up to +0.10% by open.

The day ended at -0.88%.
