Sinus Surgery Recovery

I suffered for a few years with constant sinus infections and ear infections. Went to countless specialists who believed it was my Eustachian tube on the left side of my face, and even had a few specialist who suggested getting tubes placed in my ear. Was constantly on medications to get rid of sinus infections and ear infections.

Was fortunate to find an ENT who performed a CT scan and found the underlying cause. I had a concha bullosa in my left sinus that was blocking my breathing passage. My turbinates were also taking up 90-95% of my nasal passage. I had a bilateral turbinate reduction, bilateral maxillary antrostromy, and a concha bullosa resection on the left side to open up my sinuses to allow for better drainage to resolve the issues. My ENT also corrected my slightly deviated septum.

I recorded Days 1-7 of the recovery process. Knowing I was going to have surgery freaked me out and so I googled everything and it only scared me more with everyone saying how painful and uncomfortable it was. I wanted to record my recovery just to give people comfort that it isn't the worst most painful thing in the world and is actually quite manageable. Good luck to anyone having the procedure done!

I do sound quite nasally and congested in the video and that’s just from the healing process as the swelling reduces you will sound less congested.

Turbinate surgery can be very dangerous. Your turbinates are very important to the function of breathing---they are not just useless meat in your nose. It's not like removing an appendix. You need your turbinates. Anytime a doctor does anything to the turbinates, it risks causing all sorts of breathing and sinus problems. Look up the tern Empty Nose Syndrome, which can occur even when very little tissue is removed. Your doctor should suggest you try EVERY other option before surgery, such as allergy testing, medications for vasomotor rhinitis, avoiding household irritants, etc.
