I recently look into and signed up for Amex Premium Rental Car insurance. It provides coverage for up to $100k of CDW including damage & theft for $20 or $25 PER RENTAL. Coverage is good for up to 42 days of consecutive coverage. So now I can use my Amex Gold with primary rental car coverage.

I've used Spark Miles on my last few trips. This one perk alone can save a ton, and justify all or a portion of your annual fee. Looking forward to getting 10X back on top of that, especially on my Delorean rentals!

Timely video for me at the moment. Thanks for your well detailed outline in discussing this topic. I just today rented while my car is being serviced. With one notable exception, I've always declined in prior rentals with various companies over the years.
Today & only the 2nd time in over 50+ years I chose to pay, just to be safe. I did it one other time & and it was a good decision, despite of having full coverage at the time. It was a big Penske truck, stiff, not the smoothest for a cross country haul. But I adjusted & all went well until the final day when my crazy ex girlfriends son offered to park it.... right into the lowest branch of a huge old tree. Remember the gashes in the Titanic?! It was comparable but not lethal. I'm so glad I paid a little more to Penske. The repair cost was probably a disaster... would have sunk me for sure.
I remembered that, but more of an immediate factor,

🧐My perception of the world around me isn't as crisp after a five month battle with Covid19. I'm a hyper vigilant driver as it is, but when I'm driving a friend's car & any vehicle I'm not familiar with, my attention is revited & intolerant of distraction. That Penske was a behemoth.& this little Nissan rental ain't like my old Ford...the dashboard controls? All are in the wrong place and there's a lot of new multifunction menu thingys, . the seats are too damn low, etc.

However, there's one positive:
🎖️ Citibank Costco VISA is doing 3x cash back for rentals. Not extraordinary but definitely not bad.
Capitol One Ventura & AMEX Gold took a rare day off.

That Primary CDW can save costs on trips, not having to pay rental insurance is a small savings that can add up on those trips

Good topic to cover. I recently needed to "prove" to a car rental company that I did have coverage through my credit card. I was able to call Chase & speak to someone in the Card Benefits department. They were able to email me a document within a few minutes that I could then provide to the car rental company to "prove" I had coverage.

Great explanation of cdw insurance it is often over looked when we go to rent a car. Since the car rental agency pushes the rental insurance as extra money in their pocket. Insurance is such a racket where you are required to have it and pay for it in the matter of just in case something happens. It is like those extended warranty on appliances and electronics. Like does anyone use them for the most part. Appreciate the video buddy. I know you are sitting waiting for my comment lol... 😀😁😃😅

Amex is number 1 by far for car rental over 14 days CDW compared to Visa and Mastercard.I learned that lesson the hard way smh a 10k mistake for damages. I am still paying on.

It's kinda trash that Amex doesn't have Primary insurance. Though 90% of the time when I travel, I just Uber around or take a hotel shuttle to my location so I don't really rent cars anymore very often.

Hey i do have one question. I don’t have a car and car insurance and rented a car through hertz i met with an accident and they billed me 3000+ dollars. So will amex help me in paying the amount as i did not have my own car insurance

I did through chase ink credo card, but also did it through Priceline, would this still work? I declined the collision insurance

Even though the CSP only gives 2x for auto rentals i always use it specifically for that primary auto CDW.

Not sure about the ink cards but I think they do as well.
