Our current auto insurance carrier provides coverage for any costs associated with renting a car. Lost revenue, comprehensive, liability, etc. I always call my agent to double check and to let them know in advance I’m renting. Saves us money, but the car rental place doesn’t like it….

Get it! I didn’t know! Had my rental broken into, they ripped out steering column. Cost me a few thousand… lesson learned.

if you buy the rental car insurance it usually includes loss of use (the days the car is out for repair) that no regular policy covers. Reason to buy their policy.

Simple. Yes. Any claims on your insurance can spike your rates.

What if your car is older but fancier but not worth as much? I also try to rent from certain companies over others.

If you depend on your personal car insurance while renting, and you are unfortunate enough to get into an accident, YOUR insurance may require you do all the leg work.

I gladly pay that extra premium at the rental agency to avoid that possibility.

Your Credit card will fall to your own car insurance. Not worth it. Get the rental car insurance. Even if the car burns down, all you have to do is return the keys and you are all set. Rental car insurance is the ONLY voluntary insurance worth having.
