I’ll be 30 next January and these are VERY real, even my life didn’t go to a “plan” due to a car accident and traumatic brain injury day before my 21st, all I’ve experienced since then has been… a rollercoaster with no landing, no stops, just an odd pause here and there (to say the least). I’m alive, and I’m making this life beautiful. It’s worth it. ❤

Man this recording video of you every birthday is a game changer! imagine after 10-15 years you look back at them and see how far you’ve come, how much you have improved and how much you have changed! Thankyou for this video sir.

I am 23 and I also realized that I barely have any pictures of my myself from the last years. I stopped using Instagram in 2020 so I didn't think about it anymore to take selfies and moreover I am very busy and I literally don't go anywhere fun and there is no one taking pictures of me. But on the other side I realise that I really want to have a memory of my young self when I will get old and I also want my children to have pictures of their mom in her youth

Outstanding advice to remember... this LITERALLY saved my life when I went through my old voice recordings _(hundreds of hours)_ after the absolute WORST 5 years a human being could imagine going through. My OLD self was so wise, and somehow, it seemed like I KNEW I would need it one day. Literally kept my sanity because of this.

I'm not sure I agree with number one. So I would add a note about this tip: *separate two types of journals and records: good times and bad times.* Write down the bad times to ease all your bad feelings, reread them after 1 month to see how things changed and what you learned about them, and then burn them all. And only keep the happy records, to remember to be grateful. Because I've always had the habit of writing diaries since childhood. And I accumulated a big box of journals. When I decided to clean up these memories, it was difficult to reread some things: first, I thought how silly my “I” from the past was. Second, the sad moments that I had already forgotten, it was like reliving them and suffering again after decades gone by. Totally unnecessary.

My dad took a lot of photos of me when I was a kid and I hated it, but now I'm glad he did. It's fun too look back on and now I'm taking a lot of pictures and videos too. Really helped me when I'm in a tough spot, it's nice to relive some memories.

I'm about to be 42 next Sunday and I wish I knew the majority of what you said when I was younger. I can adopt these ideas *now* better late than never!😊 I have been working on a 42 life lessons learned by 42 list. I'll be trying to do that every year from now on. I especially liked your idea to do a video each birthday.

Those are some really good points and I wish that I had developed those habits then. I bet I would be in a better place now if I did those things in my 20’s when I thought I knew everything

I’ve been journaling for years. When I haven’t made an angry in a while it usually results in a long writing session, a long steam of consciousness stile ramble and an instantly lighter more clear mind. But the talking to a camera thing on my birthday may have to start. That would be interesting to look back on. I’m at the end of something of a quarter life crisis and maybe coming out of that there’s something that my future self can learn. It can be very confronting though looking back on parts of your past during which you journaled while depressed. Honestly sometimes it’s like reading the journal of someone who truly hates themselves. It’s a twisted perverse kind of internal reality that I read from those parts of my past. Getting to see patterns like that can help you break them, writing things down even when you feel like crap can be a great way to preserve episodic memory during episodes of poor mental health. It’s very helpful.

I used to do that so much as a kid and I find it hilarious to see how much I’ve grown and all that used to go through my head.

This is exactly what I’ve been trying to do more. I’m 19 (almost 20) and man what I’d give to see real moments (videos, pictures ) from my dads and moms day to day childhood and early adulthood. They didn’t really have the camera to do so that was only for special occasions as they were poor and from a small southern town in the late70s-90s. I want to be able to show my future kids what real life was like in the 2000s, 10s, 20s etc

I'm actually surprised the video was so good. Most of the advise I have encountered on the Internet from those 'life advise channels' (like Improvement Pill) are either too generic or just not that convincing enough, but this was totally a touch of fresh air.
