Awakening of the Goddess Sekhmet with Ronnie Pontiac

Ronnie Pontiac was the personal research assistance for Manly P. Hall at the Philosophical Research Society in Los Angeles. He is author of American Metaphysical Religion: Esoteric and Mystical Traditions of the New World. He is coauthor with Tamra Lucid of The Magic of the Orphic Hymns: A New Translation for the Modern Mystic.

Here he describes both the ancient Egyptian goddess Sekhment and a contemporary movement involving large numbers of people who feel the presence of this figure in their dreams and in their lives.

I got to visit her statue in Egypt with no prior knowledge of her effect. As I approached the temple I could not get the phrase “chin up” out of my head. Walking into the room, her eyes shone like diamonds. As I approached, the guard indicated and removed the rope. I felt a tugging sensation in my heart like my heartbeat was not reflective of my state. When I knelt down I felt my womb space fell with warm energy, and I asked her to please come back as we need her help now more than ever to raise the divine feminine. The feeling in my womb space felt like it moved through me vertically and horizontally, giving me an impression of gamma pink light. I looked up and felt rather than heard the understanding that “though we each of us walk through this life alone we are never actually alone - we are always held.” At that moment I saw with my eyes a blue wisp over her right shoulder that dissipated quickly - the only way I can describe it is like the reflection on the bottom of a pool. I’ve never experienced anything like it and I’m so grateful for the experience.

Sekhmet came to me while I was doing free-form drawing. I drew her with no knowledge of her existence. A friend told me that I drew a goddess.

Maybe five years later, Isis came to me in a meditation, and brought Sekhmet with her. Isis was fierceness and faith. Sekhmet was joyful relaxation.

Not Sekhmet, but Hermes visited me for probably years in my dreams before I realized what was going on, so it's not just Sekhmet who does this to people! I really loved this interview, and I would also love it if Ronnie ever wanted to do a similar investigation of Hermes, for obvious reasons :)

Back in 2009 when I was unsuccessfully trying to get pregnant, I visited the Sekhmet temple in Nevada. I attended a service in the evening, and while I had my hands up and my eyes closed in whatever kind of prayer I could muster, I felt a little hand close around my little finger on my left hand. A woman with a baby had been standing next to me, and the baby reached out and gripped my finger and smiled and cooed at me. It felt like a blessing, but it also felt like it was NOT indicating that I was going to get pregnant, which did indeed turn out to be the case. I was actually blessed by NOT having children, for all sorts of complicated reasons, but I definitely felt seen by Sekhmet.
