This scene brought tears to my eyes. Totally subverted the expectation of the "miracle finish" that almost every sports movie has. And it showed that though the team was relegated, the real victory was that everyone on the team loved each other, compared to the beginning when nobody could stand each other.

I love that Ted let’s the team be angry and said. He gives them the space to feel those emotions, but also gives them the light at the end of the tunnel. “Onward, forward”

Ted, I know you don’t exist. But you helped me pass the biggest exam of my life. Thank you for teaching me how to be a goldfish.

"I promise you there is something worse out there than being sad and that is being alone and being sad. Ain't nobody in this room alone."
Jamie is feeling alone and sad and Ted knows it so he reminds the team how lucky they are to be together

I think what I love most about this scene is that Ted leaves at the end of it. It's hard to genuinely participate in a sad moment after a speech like that, and it's even harder for others to not see that participation as disingenuous. So he said what he needed to say and then took his leave to avoid ruining the mood.

i remember in high school football when we lost state...we worked so hard, were so excited for the "big game" yet when it came time we got out asses handed to us so bad that some of the guys were crying when our coach, Mr Rick, walked in. In an almost cinematic fashion he set out a chair, sat down, looked at all of us and said "i know you guys are sad...hell, im sad too, but ya know what? life is full of tough choices and hard times. this aint the first bad day you've had, most certainly wont be the last, but what we do from here on matters a hell of a lot more than what's out on that field still...fact is we tried, we really kicked ass this year and i couldn't be more proud of ya'll than i am right now, and i mean that. So lets keep striving, keep that motivation and make sure everyone on that field and in those stands next year remembers who we are!" true leaders can recognize when their team is feeling a little down and have the skill to get them back on their feet

What a saying: "You may not have won, but you definitely succeeded."

Watching this with other England fans after the Euros. We should all be a goldfish.

How in the world did this silly show fuck around and create one of the greatest emotional sports scenes of all time?

"...Roy chased down...his grandson..." followed by Roy's little chuckle may be one of the greatest little moments of this show. Roy being so sensitive about being the "old man" but knowing and respecting Ted enough to realize that he was just razzing him a bit... absolutely my favorite little moment in a sea of little moments. Pure genius when it comes to the writers.

Its three years after this game was uploaded.
Colombia that has only won it all once just lost in the Copa America Final 1-0 against Argentina, a country that had won it 15 times before prior, after 30 minutes of added time, over two hours all in all.
This show is fantastic

I'm in the middle of soccer seasons, where my 2 teen rec+ teams haven't had the best of winning streaks. This scene will be what I share with them, should we not place, or finish, at the end of next month. A few of them are graduating out, but I still hope they all hold their head high. And that they just remember, that no matter what the records are at the end, they played. They came to be a team, and did their best, even if the scoreboard didn't show it. Thank you, for sharing this scene.

I think it was a powerful scene because they lost. Something that happens to us all and a constructive way to look at it.
