My grandmother taught me to crochet that way when I was 9 years old. I subsequently taught my daughter the same way! I rarely see anyone else do it this way though. ❤❤❤

That's the way I hold mine. I've never seen anyone else do this. So glad you made this video.

I have never seen anyone hold both hands the way you do, except for me. I was happy to see that!

That's how I hold mine as well! I don't know how I learned it this way. came to YouTube to find out the "right way" to hold my hook and yarn. I guess I'll keep doing it the way I've always done it. Thank you!

I am so glad to see the way you hold your tarn tension with your left hand!! This is how I did it for years until I was told it was "wrong." I have been desperately trying to re-learn to hold it the more common way, but that gives me such bad hand cramps. Going back to my old faithful method!!

I’ve seen so many videos of yarn holds but none looked like the way I learned from my grandmother - except yours! It was so interesting to me that the lifted index finger seems to be the most popular way. I have tried it that way but can’t get my head around how to keep my tension consistent like that. But I’ve been doing it your way since I was a little girl, so I guess it is pretty ingrained in my muscle memory by now. 😎

Thank you so much. I almost gave up on learning to crochet today because I was struggling with how to hold the yarn.

Just wanted to say thank you so much, I finally managed to learn to make granny squares. They are so much fun, and make more interesting blankets than just the single crochet afghans I have managed, lol. Is there anyway that you would do videos of other patterns? I haven't figured out reading the patterns yet, just watched the video and ended up memorizing the pattern by the time I figured it out. I saw a square online that looked a bit like a boat steering wheel and thought it would make a great project/ gift. Sadly the pattern looks like advanced math.

Hey Tuula. I usually hold the hook like a knife and holding like a pen seemed v weird. But my way of holding always made my hands hurt a lot .... I tried holding it like you said and, even though it's a bit new and weird to my hands yet, but my hands didn't hurt after croceting for so long 🙈🙂
