Just go back to when Howard Webb said kovacic wasn't sent off against Arsenal because Michael Oliver "didn't want to negatively impact the game" 😂, you couldn't make it up...

Whats outrageous is that people come out and say the ref had no choice "its a mandatory yellow card for kicking the ball away" ok then why was it not mandatory in the first half when JP did it! The ref saw him kick the ball away all the arsenal fans, players and coaching staff protested and the ref CHOOSE to not book him. Why was it not MANDATORY in the first half!

Never seen this man point out flaws or wrongs in his fellow referees ever. He always defends their choices and twists the arguments

Gallagher is a joke - one minute he says the ref is able to provide discretion (in not booking someone) and the next he says the ref had no choice but to book Rice. As commented elsewhere, he CHOSE to book Rice but chose NOT TO BOOK Pedro (and others)....

The problem is, they follow the book when it suits them. That ref wanted to give Rice a red, and so he took his chance to follow the rules. Either give all players a yellow for delaying play, or don't do it at all.

Spot on. The fact that he kicks the ball towards Rice and then while rolling kicks the ball indicates TWO reasons the ref should have used common sense. The ball was moving and the ball was kicked from the incorrect spot of the foul. Excuse the foul on Rice. Excuse Rice’s cheeky tap away. Letter of the law theres 2 reasons all actions should have been invalid.

If anyone ever wanted to understand the meaning of the word "Waffle", this Dermots twisting of his words is the exact definition.

Veltman taught us how to "legally" kick someone without breaking the law.

1. Roll a ball near someone.
2. Kick the ball and him (make sure that guy is in your kick trajectory and make sure the ball touch him).
3. When a cop comes just claim you're trying to kick the ball but that guy is in the way.
4. Boom! The other guy got caught by cop while you're free to go.

Funny how Chris kavanagh is from Manchester aswell speaks for itself really 😂

If the law is to be followed then Veltman has to be sent off ... He deliberately kicked Rice and that's retaliation and that's a red card offense

This reinforces my suspicion that an Arsenal player was yet again targeted early in the season to set the grounds for a rule referees will prioritise for the season. Reminds me of the Tomiyasu early season sending off for allegedly doing a professional foul to stop an opponent when he barely touched the player followed quickly by being judged to have taken too long to take a throw-in after being given the ball from a teammate who was originally going to take the throw. Professional fouls and delays at throw-ins were the themes that season but were never applied with any consistently after that, even during the game...

I don't think referees in general have particular club bias's but you can prove statistically that certain referees do have club bias. Arsenal win 25% less than average when Chris Kavanagh is the ref. There's no way that who the ref is should make that big a difference through pure chance. Every season they should ban the best and worst ref from last season for a particular club from officiating their matches that season. If a particular ref is the worst for everyone... they don't play, they don't get paid.

The fact it happened right at the start of the second half the player would've been spoken to as a final warning. Rice's second yellow was such a stupid call.

But what's new? Referees are always against ARSENAL;very biased towards us for some reason!

Well actually, Veltman did kick the ball. He kicked it at the back of Declan, so prior to all of what transpired, he's already kicked a dead ball from the place where the foul occurrd.

Terry, thank you fir being consistent in calling this out irrespective of the team. The ref was correct by the letter of the law, if he had booked Pedro, we would not be having this conversation. Dermot is a mouthpiece for the pgmol

As a Chelsea fan i was appalled by the Rice sending off and then we get the Hughes pardon isn't that a thing...ffs what a pathetic load of useless referees!

Premier League is head and shoulders the best league in the world because they have the best players and managers in the world. They need the best referees in the world.

I've already got the sense from the first 3 games of the season that refs are being biased against Arsenal, so many soft fouls, look at the supposed 'foul' before Rice's sending off, it ain't a foul in a million years, but because the Brighton player fell over in a dangerous area the ref stops the play. Many times so far the ref has killed our game and momentum, all the opposing players are doing is falling over and getting fouls.

Exactly this. Dermot even contradicted himself when explaining why Pedro didn't get booked in the first half for kicking the ball away. He said, "He [the ref] could well have yellow carded him. He chose not to." So, according to Dermot, that means Chris Kavanagh could have chose not to give Rice a 2nd yellow based on the ball moving or Veltman kicking Rice.
