These are my top two online TV streaing apps. In this head to head comparison, I review the two interfaces, compatability, and prices.

MY EXTENDED REVIEW NOTES:
YouTube TV:
Note - this review is on my laptop. Honestly, I did not give YTTV a top star rating after the first review, but I kept using it and I really like it now!
YTTV comes with an unlimited DVR
YouTube TV also comes with up to 6 accounts per household ($40/mo)
Add ons typically cost between $2 and $6 per month
YouTube TV is not yet available on Amazon devices
Secure your account with Google Titan or other security keys
The standard plan is $40/mo and gives you a 5 day free trial
You can watch live items, DVR items, or TV which was shown recently and saved (some movies and shows are saved for up to a week - unless they are saved to the DVR)
You are given access to original shows/movies made by YouTube (they are not that great though)
Search suggestions pop up below each category and allow you to find similar items
DVR recordings will be saved for up to 9 months
Playback interface is a lot like YouTube
TV guide can be customized to include your favorite channels
No mini player in YTTV, but it shows up in the top bar
YouTube’s search tab is much more advanced than Sling’s

Sling TV:
50 hrs of DVR, but at a cost of $5/mo
Recordings in your Sling DVR stay saved for as long as your membership exists
No mini player
Almost 30 different add-ons make this a very customizable streaming service
In-app rentals are available
Only allows up to 3 simultaneous streams for Blue and 1 for orange
Large TV guide tab is structured in a classic setup
Sling has fewer local channels than YouTube TV

Both can record upcoming shows and series

I think you said YouTube tv is $40/mo, it was the best service for that price but they recently hiked it up to $50/mo, might want to update that

Sling its cheaper because it is broken down in mini packages you pick what you want....the interface allows you to keep the phone in vertical position for quick browsing others force you to rotate the you double click you get full screen has international options and why you want to record tv shows anyways ?

YouTube tv is the best 40 dollars as of 2019 March and unlimited dvr as where you have a 50 hour limit with others like now or sling and sling charges 5 dollars. YouTube tv is dope with 6 accounts that's a bargain

How is the FF / RW / skip ahead features on these. That is my primary motivator.

On Vue, if you start skipping around too much, it begins to freeze up.

I get local channels via antenna so we really just want college football, i.e. SEC, ESPN all, Fox 1, etc. Sling freezes and sometimes goes back to the home function in the middle of a game. I want sports and stability. How stable are signals on You tube TV?

I like Sling Blue $24.99 with the 4 for $10 deal & the $5 DVR for less than &40/month. I get TONS of stations. Way more than YouTube TV for less. I just signed up for the Disney+ which includes Hulu no ads, Disney & ESPN + $12 for a grand total of $52/month. Let’s see YouTube match that price!

DO YOU GET ACCESS TO ALL CHANNELS ON YOUTUBE?

Can you fast forward after you record a program on the dvr?

Youtube placed unskippable advertisements BEFORE the streamed show played. Does SLING TV do that?

As a long term user of sling TV, I need to add it gets a bit choppy on fire stick but it works great on roku.

Well, you did not exactly pick a winner. Y.T. advertised a $49.99 a month fee. I want to see a Y.T. and Roku-ultra comparison. This time around pick a champion of all streaming services. Thank you, for your video and help. I need to make a decision soon.

R u in the Philly area? I’m from philly but live in South Carolina, I see everytime you go to YouTube it has 76ers or flyers there. I won’t be able to watch them in South Carolina will I?

will Youtube TV work fine with the lowest level of Xfinity internet (Performance Starter) which is only 25 Mbps?

What about a comparison of the channels @ Mike O'Brien? That is very important too.

I'd get sling tv if it had all of our locals. I could get AirTV & an HDTV antenna but there're too many amazon reviews saying it's unstable, reboots, or takes you to the menu while watching tv way too often.

Sling has an issue with freezing and video just going away while you're watching... They want to blame it on equipment, but it's all over the internet and on just about every type of streaming hardware there is, so it's hard to believe it's what you're using to stream. Once I get a Roku stick, I'm going to try-out YouTube TV (right now I have a Fire Stick and no longer have a Prime acct... I don't think Prime is worth it) and YouTube doesn't play well with Fire anything.

I currently have sling, but I am disappointed with the restrictions on ESPN. Strongly considering canceling and getting Y.T instead. Does Y.T have restrictions on ESPN. Can 3 accounts stream ESPN at the same time?
