This, Sir, is some excellent and nowhere-else-to-be-found information!

Very useful cheers. I have a phantom creak that i'm trying to hunt down and this is going to be the starting point.

Congratulations on getting married. Great in depth and honest video. You are one of the reasons why i ended up choosing a Pinion equipped bike.

Great video. I got a Pinion equipped bike because of you too. Love it. I will check my mounting bolts too. I did put some Loctite on the pedal arm bolts recently. They got loose after a long hard ride and I felt something was moving around. If the frame mounting bolts come loose, I will Loctite them too. Thanks for the info.

Thanks for the video. I have a pinion c1.12. About a year old and 2k miles. It recently started creaking and rattling. Driving me nuts. Do you happen to have a recording or video of the noises yours made?

I’ll try cleaning and tightening and hope it works. I don’t want to buy a $50 tool, though…

Had exactly the same on my bike. In my case, the culprit was the inaccessible bolt getting lose.

We have to periodically check these bolts.

In terms of design, it's annoying to have to disassemble everything just to tight a bolt. Shall I get a higher crank so I could access freely that hidden bolt?

Hey Ethan, thanks for the video. How easy was it to remove the locking? I am wondering if you've done it before this time captured on this video? I am currently trying to remove my front cog, using exactly the same tools you are using... I am applying force and the locking just does not go.... at all. I am applying way more force then you are in the video to loosen it, the Pinion lockring removal tool is placed correctly. I'm just lost, thinking maybe whoever assembled the bike did it dry and tightening way past 40 Nm specified on the tool.

What detergent and any special tools did you use to clean the dirts on the gearbox? Including the tiny gaps of the crank socket…..

Great video. Trying to get the cranks off my pinion gearbox. Do you know if the central lock bolt on the left crank is standard or reverse threaded? Thanks!

How’s the pinion treating you now? Just got mine

I wonder if pinion is a better crawler against derailleur system with 30t front and 50t or 52t rear combo?

thanks for (kinda)second report on reliability! I'd wish there would be more info on effigear, maybe there is in French, but I don't know french. Effigear seems awesome high pivot solution for gates driven full suspension bikes. Cavaliere bikes are expensive though

Hi friend. I travel around the world with my bicycle and I am thinking of changing my traditional transmission for the Pinion syste but I have doubts if it will be better for my long trips where little maintenance is sought, long lasting parts and light tools. How long is a leash? Is it difficult to change? Every few kilometers you have to change the oil? Is the oil expensive and exclusive to the brand? Is it easy to change the axis? thank you very much!

12:38 cover this with some thicker variety frame protection tape. This is from small stone strikes, but then the alloy started to tarnish(/corrode, like steel rusting) and raise up. This is continuous process if not taken care of. Covering it up with tape will help and slow it down, protect from moisture and water.
You need to forget family life and start raiding more, so we get more of those reliability reports man. We're counting on You ha ha ha

Would you happen to remember what those mounting bolts were? M6? M8?

Pinions gearboxes are notorious for developing a creak in the crank clamping. They instruct you to move the crank on the crankshaft by a spline or two every year. It doesn't really help, because the soft part wearing out is the aluminium crank, and the asymmetry of load around the revolution is relative to the crank, so you move the problem right along while moving the crank.
My conclusion is that the spline design is not really up to the job for the materials used.

I love my pinon gearbox on my Priority 600 X

And that would be a steel frame, right?

Did you get the gearbox anodized or did it come that way?
