@angergray its the same both ways. x + 1 = 2x because infront of the X there is an unwritten ( 1 )
so x + 1 = 2x is the same as 1x + 1 = 2x

to add them, u need to have like terms. a number with a variable and a number without are not like, therefore u can't add them. 1x+1x = 2x. you can't add 1x and 1 because they are unlike.

Interesting question. I dug a bit around to see if I could find a clever term for your "4-term-polynomial", but they seem to stop listing names at trinomial. However, I guess you could keep adding on Greek (or perhaps even Latin?) numbers as you keep adding more nomials (or nomes, or what ever you call them). I guess I'd call it a quadnomial instead of say.. A tetranomial..

You might try using the Vedic Math technique of the "moving multiplier" to write the result directly.
