My dad nailed this one!--it's my favorite, even moreso than his recording of Some Enchanted Evening. He passed away this month 5 years ago in 2011 and I miss him every day. Honored to know so many people still love his recordings.

I'm 80. I saw the movie when I was 18 or 19. A girl I wanted to date asked me to this movie. I couldn't take my eyes from the screen. This movie got me into the Air Force, stationed in Asia. I met guys like the Seabees. I met my "Tonkinese". I visited those islands. The movie and the songs stayed with me all my life. I backpacked through over 80 countries and all through the Pacific wanting to find my "special island", my Bali Hai. I walked on beaches like those of the movie. I saw many island volcanoes. Never found it until I was 62 and it wasn't a place. I met my "Tonkinse", my Liat and she was my Bali Hai. It isn't a place, it is sharing life with the soul mate. Bali Hai can be anywhere with the right person. 18 years and counting.

My Dad was a Spitfire Pilot in the Pacific and when this film was released he took us little kids into Melbourne to see it! As young as I was, this song your Dad sings touches my heart. Your Dad sung with such passion! Thank you.

To say that your dad, the distinguished operatic singer Giorgio Tozzi 'nailed it', I think is an understatement, Eric.
His rich masculine bass voice makes this song... a truly moving and utterly romantic song matched by Giorgio's wonderfully soulful tone, it's quite magical.
I grew up with the original recording of South Pacific, it was in my Mum's collection of Vinyl Lp's.
Along with works by Beethoven, this lovely song remains one of my most precious memories.
It is quite remarkable that whoever wrote up Giorgio's entry in Wikipedia omitted his contribution to what was probably the most popular musical of a generation.... at a time when entertainment was all about either Broadway (or Hollywood).

My Dad loved this song. Used to play the 78rpm on the gramaphone. It seemed to have a special meaning for him. I was blessed to grow up in a home full of beautiful songs and music Thanks to my wonderful parents.

No one has ever performed this song better. The gods will always be with Tozzi! GT can fill a opera house, yet listen to the restraint, keeping it small, between two people.... I believe him. One moment of happiness. And on a more personal note, I'll never forget Lisa, the one that got away.

Great voice. We had the LP. Coming back to the song, the words South Pacific draw me to want to be there, those Pacific Islands

A long long time ago my father going by his radio name on WEAN, Providence, R.I. " Don Rogers " received a fan mail from the woman writing him below to " Please play the musical score from South Pacific some time ". Well, for Lauretta M. Talbot wherever you are, I share this video in memory of " Pop " and his still remembered " Dream Time " show "

[ " Dear Don, I want to tell you how much I enjoy your show. I'm up usually at 3 A.M so I put the radio on very low so I won't awaken my husband, Please play the musical score from " South Pacific " some time for me . Thank You, Mrs. Lauretta M. Talbot, 1387 Langley St., Fall River, Mass., Dec. 21st 1960 " ]

This was a great show and a great film. I saw it in the fifties and it has stayed in my heart all this time. Rosano Brazzi was a perfect lead for Mitzi Gaynor, who of course supplied her own voice for her songs. This must be for me the all-time favourite musical with marvellous tunes and a wonderful story line.

Magnificent ! So good to hear this again. No one will ever exhibit the talent of Rogers, Hammerstein, Porter, Berlin and the rest of the talented composers & lyricists of that era.

Having a moment where my love and I are separated due to the virus and I miss him so much. It just feels like everything is slipping away right now. Beautiful music soothes the soul in these trying times.

I love the orchestration of this version from the film where the violins echo “Some Enchanted Evening” in a high register.
