I see it as this:
Seeing as the Bow of Light is basically forced on you at the end, and all other weapons were optional, you did beat the game without weapons.
Like in the no coins Odyssey run, where you had no choice but to get one coin, if the game forces you to do it, then it doesn't count as part of the challenge.

So, not including the one time the game forced you to use a weapon, you successfully completed this challenge. Congrats!
