I have The Essex Serpent on my shelf but haven't got to it yet and I've heard so many good things about Circe so I need to give that a try! I love Hannah Kent's books, Burial Rites and The Good People, she works history in with folklore and her writing is incredibly atmospheric!

Historical fiction always seems to scary but there are some absolute gems, including Outlander!

I love historical fiction! And for one of the reasons you said - it’s a great way to find out about history while getting a good story too. I also love the fact that historical fiction covers any time period, so am currently enjoying WW1-set books like those by Jojo Moyes, Marcus Sedgwick and Michael Morpurgo...

These all sound great, can't wait to give one a try! I really like Girl with a Pearl Earring by Tracy Chevalier (does that count haha). It's sooo much better than the movie (obviously) and I think, like you said with getting into history, it's a good one for making art history more accessible and relatable.

I’m reading Circe now and really enjoying it! Right before that, I read The Essex Serpent. Sadly, I hated it. I thought I would like it because I love nature, but it just didn’t do it for me.
