Thanks for this list. I’ve only read Kindred and loved it!

I kept waiting for Silverberg’s “Up the Line, ” but you managed to find some “classics” I haven’t even heard of. What a venerable sub-genre of SF is time travel! I may have to travel back to this week again in the future.

Thanks for recommendations! Now Simak's Ring and Vonnegut's Sirens will move higher on my TBR. Also, recently started to read Dick's novels, they all are great so your suggestion is definitely going to TBR.
Two honourable mentions of good old classic from me: "A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court" by Mark Twain and "The Star Rover" by Jack London.

Completely agree with Vonnegut high on the list. I usually don't expect to see him on list of time travel novels, but Sirens definitely deserves it!

I've been so enjoying Time Travel week! It's made me excited to get reading again after being in a slump this past month! Damn, The Weapons Shop of Isher sounds good, but your warning has me hesitant, as that is the very same reason I'm not fond of Heinlein's work so that'll go on the maybe pile. Now Wait for Last Year sounds really good and I've been wanting to read more of Dick's works. Any others of his you'd highly recommend? Kindred is on my TBR for October, and while Time Machine has been on my tbr for awhile, I originally put it on my tbr bc I felt as a scifi reader I had to. But your summary of it makes me interested in actually reading it!

I couldn't remember what Time Travel book by Clifford Simak I owned so I looked real quick and it wasn't on this list ( didn't realize Simak wrote so much time travel lol) it's Time is the Simplest Thing? I got it secondhand for cheap mostly because I haven't yet read anything by Simak. Are you familiar with it? And if so, what are your thoughts on it?

Spider Robinson Callahan's Crosstime Saloon series have several amazing time travel stories.

Thanks for putting End of Eternity at number 1. It's a work of genius.

"Star Maker" is challenging but brilliant. It's ontological in the way it penetrates time and reality. "Now Wait for Last Year" is a score of brilliant ideas/concepts, even though it lacks the quality of precise economy of words and elegant prose that marks most of Dick's best novels and pieces. I suppose "The Time Machine" is one of if not the seminal novel about time travel that's influenced everything since. I respect it whether I like it or not. I also quite liked "The Sirens of Titan", but it's very many years since I read it.

First ones I want to read (or reread?) are #10 and #1. Both sound good. As a teen I read every Asimov book in the school and public libraries. Mind you, I read every sci-fi book in the libraries too. That was in what you call the “classic” era (1970s)😁 so there were fewer sci-fi books to read.

Was hoping you'd pick a Vonnegut! Bonus was getting a PKD that I haven't read! Thanks

One of my favorites is Dinosaur Beach by Keith Laumer. I don't think there's a time travel story which spans a wider arc, and deals with, and in a sense resolves, many of the contradictions of time travel stories.
