I would also argue that it makes people better drivers. The biggest source of accidents I see in my area is people distracted, people texting, people engaged in the music they're listening to... oddly enough, I've even seen women do their makeup/hair and guys shaving while on the road... A manual will never forgive that kind of crap -- you have no choice but to keep your eye on the ball and maintain your attention.

If your caught texting and driving over 3 times you should be forced to trade in your automatic for a stick shift. That way it forces you to stop.

If your battery runs flat on your automatic, you're screwed. The manual, well, two people can get it started. Scratch the second person if there's a downhill.

Sorry for the confusion here! I recorded these a little while ago so I could upload both of the manual vs automatic videos at the same time, so the car I'm driving is my 2015 Corvette (what I had before the Hellcat)

That you said about car thieves trying to steal a car that has a manual transmission and failing to get away with the car is true. Someone tried to steal my 2014 Kia Forte the night between June 8 and 9, 2023 and didn't succeed because it has a manual transmission.

I grew up driving manual vehicles...and just today (after 20 years) I finally got another one. Drove it like it was nothing

I always love a manual gearbox and clutch pedal. With a manual gearbox, I feel as if I am in control of the vehicle.

17 years young and I’m never driving an auto ever. First car is a 06 325 6 speed and I couldn’t love it more.

Yes! An American who gets it. This is why we drive manual in the UK. Smashing the back roads, rev matching, in touch with the car. You get it. Man and machine.

Nowadays driving a manual in the US makes your car unattractive to car thieves ;)

Again update, I've been driving the Z/28 for a while now and I think I'm starting to catch on. I was in bumper to bumper traffic today and had to start on hills but I didn't stall! Have only driven the car 100 miles so far. All the points you mentioned are correct. Even if I still suck a lot I love the sense of control I have over the car and how engaged I am. I feel apart of the machine. I also feel a bit special being only like 10% of Americans that drive a stick. It has its downs but now that I'm getting the hang of it it's mostly ups.

The brakes on a manual shift has one added set, this is for the times they just stop working while in motion. The drivers that are used to a manual shift can stop or slow down by using the clutch and shifter. If the starter just goes out they can also be push, pulled, and even parked on a hill, and started. The manual transmission will vastly reduce texting and driving. They generate more power at the drive wheels for they are gear driven not fluid driven. I would rather have a manual over the automatic transmission for just this reason.

I hadn't thought about the cost difference that much, but i'm sure that's true. A manual is truly so much more fun to drive though.

Manuals sound better.
Also slipping the clutch at the right time can be a lot of fun plus get quick launches at the lights because your able keep the revs up rather than bogging the engine down.

If your battery is dead or the starter is dead you can push start it.

Welp I have to drive an auto because I'm a paraplegic so I drive with hand controls :) The point is I still drive a Camaro and I can still drive it likes it's meant to be driven. Just because I'm paralyzed doesn't mean I have to drive like it lol. To the people who say autos aren't driving, there's much more to driving than just shifting. To me it's the feeling of torque, the sound of the exhaust, the thrill of lighting up the tires or blowing someones doors off. Great video either way. I just recently subbed so I'm catching up on your videos lol.

I remember getting my car first used car at 18. It was a 96 for ranger, v6 4.0l .. manual transmission. Years later, after years of financial struggle and school and pursuing a career, I was able to have a good salary. Salary then made room for a new car. Chose a new car with automatic to test - wasn’t the same. Tried the same model of a new car - in a manual. Purchased and loved it! I was also able to knock off 4k from the sale price as it has been in their lot for some time as nobody wanted to buy a manual shift.

You forgot to mention that with a manual you have more control over the car, for example in a manual you have engine breaking, where as in a auto as soon has you come off the throttle your car keeps rolling and wont slow down at all, which is bad if you are driving down a hill as you will be riding the brakes all the time, where as a manual you can down shift and let the engine break do all the work.

I am from Europe (Slovakia), and its funny to hear that someone cant drive a manual 99, 97% drivers can. The rest had test just from auto trans. and laws ban driving manual gearbox car. But it such a nice thing to do.
