Bob McKenzie discusses what led to the WJC cancellation, and whether it's possible to reschedule

The remainder of the IIHF World Junior Hockey Championship has been officially cancelled due to a number of positive cases of COVID-19 among the 10 teams in the tournament. Bob McKenzie has more on the IIHF's decision.

This tournament has historically connected the dots for me from Boxing Day to the 5th of January. Kind of empty feeling seeing it cancelled like this.

Absolutely ridiculous. We're 2 years into this, everyone has their shots, now people are testing positive with absolutely no symptoms or with the sniffles. This theater production has gone on long enough.

This is profoundly disappointing. This is a terrific tournament with some of the most compelling hockey of the year. I won’t point fingers but the protocols that were in place last year were successful. Not sure why they were not in place this year.

The last few weeks has really put a spotlight on how poorly hockey is run. NHL, CHL, IIHF. All of them have completely & utterly dropped the ball.

what about the quarantine periods before the tournament? atleast finland had that and dont seem to have any players testing positive. why even let players near people that could spread the virus while the tournament is going on? media etc.

What I don’t understand is why games had be forfeited for an entire team for one positive test. Just isolate the positive player from the rest of the team and isolate his roommate until the roommate’s PCR results come back. That seems reasonable

I still haven't seen if this Slovakia would be able to beat this Russia. Only 4:2 against Switzerland. I guess we'll never know. But things were about to change when the tournament was cancelled.

Imagine being a player and getting all the vaccines and booster shots so you can play in this tournament and then have to cancel because you're still getting COVID. Makes you lose a lot of faith in the experts and institutions you're told you should trust and believe. Hope this wakes a lot of people up.

They could have put these guys in a bubble starting the week before the tournament. Would have saved all this nonsense and wasted time, effort, and money.
They weren't even in private hotels? Seriously? Would have been such a simple step and likely would have saved the tournament. Can't believe these guys are being paid $100, 000+ every year to plan shit like this. Joe Blow off the street could have planned this better.

Realy covid isn't even that bad or dangerous everyone is over reacting and its sad too see people are reacting to covid the same since the start. If they keep doing this stuff covid will never end.

2nd wave of a pandemic? This is the 3rd and it’s going to happen every single winter.. need to learn to live with this or the sport will eventually die,
