Glad to hear you enjoy it as much as I remember I did. I don’t recall a lot of details about it since it’s been so long, but I definitely remember being blown away by the DT connection reveal near the end.

This was one of my favorites but seems like most people hate it.

Spot on review, love this book this was the first King new release I bought (paperback - Rose Madder was the first hardback) after reading some of the older books.
I like your point about it being the most Dark Tower book that isn’t actually a Dark Tower book, something I agree with - although I think it’s tied with Rose Madder.
Interesting to hear you say that this book is where you consider the turning point for King’s later literary style, personally I’ve always thought it was Bag of Bones.
Don’t get me wrong, King is certainly evolving into that style here, but for me reading Bag of Bones was the conscious realisation of his changing style (that was reinforced further with Hearts in Atlantis).
But hearing you pinpoint it a couple of years earlier has made me think, and I’ll have to keep it in mind during my next Insomnia reread.

The auras around people and lines up to the sky from people's heads, that he saw reminded me of the movie Branded. It was slow to start, but I didn't mind. I loved the creepy bald headed doctors. I thought a lot of imagination went into Insomnia. The ending was very action packed. I had not read The Dark Tower when I listened to Insomnia, so I was unaware of the connections. It would be interesting to re-listen once I finish The Dark Tower series.

Great review. Always loved this novel and I think it makes a good double feature with DUMA KEY. King writes older men quite well.

Hello. I'm glad I came across your channel. Oddly enough, Stephen King's books help me overcome depression. I apologize in advance, English is not my native language.

Looking good E! Damn...I'm embarrassed that I still haven't read Insomnia. Will have to remedy that soon.

The copy I have is the one with the inverted red and white colors, and for the longest time I thought I had gotten a messed up edition

It's funny that this is the book you're reviewing today. I have terrible insomnia but last night I slept well for the first time in years

Totally agree on everything you said on this video. I'm one of the rare CRs that aren't absolutely crazy about his horror stuff. I mean I still love his 80s era, but it's usually not my favorite of his decades.

Wow. Great review, but I'm surprised, 'cuz this is one of my absolute least favorite King novels, so I'm amazed that it's one of anyone's favorites. No problem, tastes are different and I enjoyed hearing why you liked it, even though it's one of the few King books I really hated. I just found "the little doctors" terribly silly and wondered if there's ever an idea that King rejects... Admittedly, I don't like King's more fantasy-oriented works... I'm not a big fantasy guy. But, different strokes, I reckon.

Do I need to have read the Dark Tower series before reading this one? Even with the strong Dark Tower tie-in, can it still be read and enjoyed without having read that series?

I mean, even King himself said it was a "stiff, trying too hard novel." This was the book that, at age 19, I threw against the wall and quit King for ten years.
