my fav recommendation for u to try:

1. since this restaurant was Madurai based, check if they have Jigar Thanda next time, a spl summer beverage.
2. Puttu, with coconut graged on top, and sugar optional. Also saviury gravies can be topped on it.
3. Idiyappam, same options as above.
4. Chettinad chicken gravy/kulambu. Tamil and south indian people usually dont say curry. I personally dislike it since brits developed that term (also used as slur in England cuz of course they do). Some believe it came from tamil Kari (கறி) which means a cooked side dish.
5. Any Kerala beef dishes. The best.
6. Kerala's jackfruit briyani.
7. any of Keralas various fish dishes.
8. Andhra gunpowder/tamil nadu idli podi dosa. similar.

Not only is south indian food extremely healthy (idli's being packed with protien from the lentils) it is also the tastiest vegetarian/vegan food in the world.
