Yachts are ships, ships can be yachts. They're also referred to as "pleasure boats", which doesn't alter their status as ships. All ships are boats, but a boat is a ship only if it's large enough that it can carry an onboard boat. Yesterday I was in London. England and building works on a HUGE mansion being constructed for an Oligarch was continuing (weekend building isn't common in UK!). We stopped and spoke to the site security guard who said 'think it's being built through an offshore company'.
