Apollo 11 - Moon Ascent Onboard Audio - 24 fps AI Interpolated - Audio Highlight 5 - Lunar Module

Показать описание
Audio and film recordings onboard Apollo 11 during the powered ascent from the Moon.
A few seconds after liftoff Aldrin starts the DAC camera, filming the Moon landscape below. The camera was initially running at 12 frames per second, and was then set to 6 frames. Here it was AI interpolated to 24 fps.

Engine cutoff and RCS jets during maneuvering are visible towards the end of the video. Some sequences using Orbiter Spaceflight Simulator with the AMSO addon make for the missing footage at the start and end of the sequence.

The onboard recorder was very noisy, but after clean up the sound quality is decent. Onboard cockpit audio was placed left and Air to Ground right.
Transcript (for the Apollo Flight Journal) is displayed to help with understand what's being said.
This audio sequence corresponds to NASA's Apollo 11 Onboard Audio Highlight 5.

Interesting that you can see the 'wiggle' of the LEM as it hunts for the correct course (No gimbal on the ascent engine).

Impressive video Retro Space HD. Anyone going to see the SpaceX Inspiration 4 mission scheduled to launch at 8:00pm EDT on September 14th?

And in this case, how was the load balance carried out at the time of takeoff?
As at the beginning of the PDI, the engine is started at 10% of its maximum power in order to calculate the center of mass...
How it was done in the case of the lunar module ascent, just at the moment when it needs all its power to get out of the lunar gravity, is the key moment to carry out the load balance, so as not to enter an uncontrolled spin and fall to the lunar surface again...

Was this taken from a Hollywood movie or did you make it up? Enjoyable fiction!

Retro Space HD, It's with great sadness that I must inform you that Susan Borman (wife of Astronaut Frank Borman) passed away from a long fight with Alzheimer's disease on September 7th.

One of the weird things about the moon is that because there's no atmosphere and fractal sized craters of every possible size, you never really know from looking out the window exactly how high you're up or how fast you're really going. Without a proper radio altimeter and speed readings you would be in big, big trouble. The moon orbital velocity is close to 3750 mph!

In the CG part before the film starts you should include the flag getting blown down since Buzz Aldrin says that did happen.

The only loud sound should be the ascent hypergolic engine and side trust stabilizers and the human voices. The crackling and roar can only be from the engines. It should have shut down on reaching lunar orbit as the men announced. It did not shut down at any stage. This is very strange.

That's a huge crater at about 6:30 into video. And some more at 10:50.

Was there on board flight sound on lift off? The shadows from 7 minutes onwards don't look quite right...

Great document, to say the least. The background noise sounds like it's coming from the LEM's radio communications. At times, it almost sounds as if some Doppler effect is present. One little note about the dialog transcription: The correct transcription spelling for program and navigation guidance system is PNGS, not PGNS - just a typo. Thanks for posting this document -- and for its pristine audio track.

Excellent video. You've done a great job of harmonizing mission audio with mission film and your own animation. It's practically seamless. The Capcom transcription on the left side really helps keep track of what is happening. Thanks!

Did anyone else notice the white -whatever it was - below the Eagle flying across the surface of the moon? It comes into sight right at 11:00. It come into view in the bottom left corner of the window and flies completely across the window. Anyone have any ideas about what it is?
