Networking Basics

In this video I go over what I know about networks and the basics of them. I break down this video into 3 parts. Access Points, Switches, and Routers.

Let me know down below if I fail to explain something correct or if I made no sense. I know I messed up on DHCP. It stands for Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol.

Thanks for all the support!

I know this video is aging but great explanation! Just wanted to point out a big miss on routing in the LAN. When connecting a switch, the switch will “learn” the paths to the MAC addresses being addressed. You can connect a 100Mb router to a 1Gb switch and receive 1Gb speeds between clients connected to the switch. However, links to the router/gateway off to the ISP will be limited to the 100Mb connection. Just wanted to point this out so it is not treated that your network is only as fast as your router/gateway.

Really love the way you explain things. While I didn't learn anything new, it was a nice confirmation for me that I know the basics very well. Thank you for your video, looking forward to your next!

Does anyone here take questions from idiots? I have a Drobo storage device with 8 hard drives and I have no clue how to setup a network to view the files. Is there a way to view the files on the hard drives with an external hard drive docking station?
