This is by far the most iconic moment in Reformation history. Martin Luther nails 95 theses to the church door in Wittenberg. These 95 theses are not really spectacular. Martin Luther's later writing will be much more profound and church splitting.

In the document he nails to the door Martin Luther criticizes the sale of indulgences. In 95 theses he states that the salvation cannot be sold or bought. It can only be freely given as a gift from a graceful and loving God. This insight kills the hugely successful business model of the medieval church. The renegade monk causes profits to collapse over night.

The church retaliates, but the Reformation cannot be stopped any more. The church splits, the Holy Roman Empire descends into civil war and the middle ages are done. And it all started with 1 door and 95 theses.
