Autism is not an excuse. You cant be a threat and count on special treatment.

A dangerous threat is a dangerous threat, period.

This is 100% the fault of the parents. How does he even get a hold of the tool? And how is he unsupervised that long

What did anyone expect the cop to do. Do a phyc evaluation as hes being charged.

Ok and? Kid was rushing him with a weapon. You expect the cop to lay down and let the kid maul him because he had mental issues? No thanks bud

The cop didn't know bro all he saw was a dude coming at him with a weapon that could hurt him. Im sorry for the family's loss prayers with them. But what can u do he attacked someone already thats all the cop knew. Even if the cops had been there before doesn't mean that cop knew the kid had autism. The family should had said something in the phone call 2 the dispatchers tho .

See, this is why i stopped watching certain Autistic clients. My last one was 5'11' 220lb 14yo male, towered over me (which isn't hard to do), and actually had a good amount of hair on his face and chest. He would NOT listen, he was incredibly aggressive, and noncompliant with meds. I told his parents, told my company, documented. No calming tactics or disciplineary measures worked because his parents only coddled him. When he pulled my hair at a redlight and tried to drag me, people got out of their cars and whooped his ass. His family tried to blame me for his hospitalization.

So now the family wants money? Unbelievable. Can’t handle their own kid, call the police for help, the cops deal with it the best way they can, now they want to get paid! This is very sad.

I work in a psych facility, and one of our most scariest patients are normally younger adults with autism. Some of them are very, very strong and it’s sad i’ve seen them attack just because they didn’t get a cookie or juice

Some things……..he attracted his sister, the other sister was scared to death, if she wasn’t she would’ve called 911. He had a weapon in his hand that would have split the officers head open. There should be a sign posted like they do when notifying us there is a blind person or a deaf child etc. this officer had no choice and why were these sisters left alone with him having a dangerous history …..goodness sakes.

Now look at all his suicide attempts... he tried only 2 weeks earlier. Then the month before... his 'loving' parents were emotionally abusive. THAT'S WHY THEY DIDN'T HAVE A FUNERAL. MY SON WAS HIS BESTFRIEND. CPS DROPPED THE BALL. HE SHOULD NOT HAVE BEEN IN THAT HOUSE. TALK TO HIS FRIENDS. His parents got an attorney before his body was even cold. Struggling a bit... yeah well suicide ATTEMPTS because his biggest bullies lived with him!!!

Body cams are the best defense any good cop could possibly have. This video proves that.

Grew up around autistic kids. I have mental issues myself and often hung out with other kids with autsim and adhd. My neighbor and mom were special needs teachers. My mom's friend has been pretty battered up by a autistic 5th grader. Same student put his older sister in the hospital. Yes, they know right from wrong. Yes, in certain situations they can't control their emotions and actions, but that shouldnt cost the wellbeing of another person. Clearly this has been an on-going problem. You cant blame the cop. There was no way to tell if he could make it out of that without serious bodily injury. It's a sad situation for everybody.

Just because he's autistic doesn't mean he couldn't have killed somebody with that thing in his hands. He was very dangerous in that moment and a moment is all it takes. Unfortunately a life was lost but the cops were in the right. Tasers are for people that don't have weapons because they are not 100% effective.

He had a bunch of issues that the parents didn't seek help for unfortunately, this officer had to protect themselves. Thank God the kid didn't kill anybody.

Autistic or not he brought an axe out and moved aggressively toward someone with a gun… that’s a death sentence for anyone

Doesn’t matter if he is a minor, autistic, crazy, etc. the cop has a right to protect himself. We are making too many excuses for everything.
