an you go on pointe if you have flat feet? Absolutely. As long as your intrinsic muscles are strong enough and your ankles have enough range of motion, flat feet can be just as successful on pointe!

Many, many years ago, when I was a child, I was diagnosed with flat feet. My orthopaedic specialist advised my mother to take me to ballet lessons as a form of physiotherapy. It helped me to walk better and with other therapies improved my feet.

A lot of people confuse "flat feet" and "low arches." When the arch is naturally low, people often pronate a bit as well, because it's not very far down and so there isn't really any discomfort from doing so, so they may be told they have flat feet until they develop the habit of maintaining their arches lifted. This is a completely different challenge than the dancer in this video. It would be nice to see some fittings for dancers who have low arches and face the challenge of finding a shoe that allows them to access their full range of motion in order to get over the platform and be successful in correct alignment en pointe.

The funniest thing is me and the one other girl in my pointe class (I know only 2 of us) we have like beautiful arch’s like stunning and the teacher is always jealous because she’s flat footed 😜
