the real train platform skill is knowing which door will position you closed to the platform exit at the station you're heading to, the feeling pride from being first up the steps off a peak our train is immense

Definitely a skill ive slowly picked up over the years of using public transport. Another skill id love to see that really saves time is finding the right carriage/door to get off the train directly infront of the stairs at your stop

It's hard to do in Melbourne because different trains have the doors in different spots. In Brisbane all the trains are consistent so you can see the darker areas on the platform to see the wear people don't walk

If you look at the white paint along the platform, in Town Hall at least, you can see the faint darker areas where people step on and off the train. Most drivers are on the money and stop at the same place each time, but there is about a 1m variability. I always wondered if I was the only one who noticed this.

This has many variables with the configuration of Metro train doors as the HMCT, Siemens, Comeng & Xtrapolis all have doors in different spots & not to mention the V/Line who have H set, N set carriages all with different positions hauled by an N class locomotive & not to mention the sprinters & velocities

There are some hotly contested train door tragics on the lilydale line. They literally get there half an hour early just to stand on the one spot.

Meanwhile in Japan they have signs on the floor telling you where the door will be and what door to use to be close to your exit at your station

In Brisbane you can look at the white on the platform and the spots where it is cleaner is where the doors stop

Pretty funny when you consider in a lot of places they have markings on the platforms where the doors will be and the trains just stop there every time.

I used to use trains every day and had worked this out. its not a guessing game but rather looking for clues. I would look at the white pain between the gap and the markers. you can seen the paint is darker where the heaviest foot traffic is. that's where I would then stand and I never failed. you can even see the evidence of this in this clip and where he stands originally is darker than where he moves. you can also see those dark spots evenly down the platform in this clip. thank me later commuters

japan they have it painted where the doors will be. for multiple length trains and multiple train lines aswell. Does this happen in other countries?
