Wallah in the name of Allah this morning of 15/5/2021 when I took a nap I dreamt about Dr Zakir that I was asking him on how I should become like him. I went to him while he was listening to a small radio like thing it was as if he was listening to Ahmed deedat as he was just about to answer, someone came which I think was urgent then he went with him. Wondering what that was.

How do we reconcile this passage along with other passages such as Matthew 24:36-“But of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, nor the Son, but the Father alone, ” with the theology of the Trinity? Moreso, how do we answer objections to his equality to the Father (in divinity) within the LDS community and his actual divinity to groups just as the JWs based on these verses and others like it that appear to seperate the two person’s authority quite drastically.

In John 14:28, Jesus says, “The Father is greater than I.” For many, this statement seems obvious: Jesus is not God. But is this really what our Lord was saying?

In Catholic theology, this text can be understood in two ways. First, being “greater” than another does not have to mean one is essentially different from the other, as when we say a man is essentially distinct from an animal. Greatness can refer to one person functioning in a greater way quantitatively, qualitatively, or even relationally in comparison to another without there being an essential distinction. For example, Matthew 11:11 tells us there has never “risen among [men] a greater than John the Baptist: yet he that is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he.” John is not something other than human because he is said to be greater than certain other people. All human beings share the same nature; therefore, they are absolutely equal in dignity.

Similarly, the Father can be said to be greater than the Son pertaining to their relation within the inner life of God, but not with respect to their shared nature as being fully and equally God. The Father alone is the first principle of life in the Godhead; thus, the Catechism of the Catholic Church can say, in paragraph 246: “Everything that belongs to the Father, except being Father, the Son has also eternally from the Father, from whom he is eternally born . . .” (emphasis added). In this sense, the Father can be said to be greater than the Son relationally, while they are absolutely equal with regard to their essence as God.

Another—and perhaps simpler—way one can legitimately interpret this text is to point out that John 14:28 seems to be emphasizing the humanity of Christ. Thus, because Jesus is fully man, it would be appropriate to say the Father would be greater than the Son. The entire verse reads: “You heard me say to you, ‘I go away, and I will come to you.’ If you loved me, you would have rejoiced, because I go to the Father; for the Father is greater than I.”

Jesus was emphasizing here and in previous verses his impending death, resurrection, and departure from the apostles. This would apply to his humanity most particularly. Thus, the same Jesus who can say, “I and the Father are one” in John 10:30—as God—can say, “The Father is greater than I” in John 14:28—as man.

WHY DID JESUS HIDE HIS GLORY?

Glorify the Father

Jesus hid his glory when he became a man in order to show his Father’s glory. “No man hath seen God at any time; the only begotten Son, which is in the bosom of the Father, he hath declared him” (John 1:18). When Old Testament believers witnessed an appearance of Christ, they were often fearful for their lives. They knew that sinful man could not look upon God and live. The glory of God was also the judgment of God; the natural person who saw it died. When Moses spent forty days alone with God on Mount Sinai, it was necessary to cover his face when he came down because it reflected the glory of God. The people could not look upon God and live.

When John was on the Isle of Patmos, he too had a vision of Christ. When John saw Jesus in the full glory that was his from the beginning, John wrote, “And when I saw him, I fell at his feet as dead” (Rev. 1:17). When Paul had a similar vision of Christ, he was blinded with light from heaven (Acts 9:3-9). Later he wrote of being “caught up into paradise, and heard unspeakable words, which it is not lawful for a man to utter” (2 Cor. 12:4). When Isaiah saw the Lord in the temple, he cried out, “Woe is me…” (Isa. 6:1-8).If Jesus had not veiled his preincarnate glory he could not have accomplished what he came to earth to do. It was necessary for Christ to hide his glory temporarily as he sought to save the souls of men. After the work of atonement was done, he could pray, “And now, O Father, glorify thou me with thine own self with the glory which I had with thee before the world was” (John 17:5).

Limitations of Humanity

As a result of the incarnation, Jesus became the God-man. He was at all times both God and man as he lived on earth. When Jesus became flesh, he voluntarily subjected himself to its limitations Be. fore his birth, heaven was his throne. Now in the flesh, Jesus was limited to the distance that a man could walk on the paths of Galilee. The Son of God who created water voluntarily lived in a body that got thirsty.

Jesus was born into this world as other humans (Luke 2:120), even though his conception was supernatural. As a child he developed as every human must develop. Jesus grew in mental, physical, spiritual, and social areas of life (Luke 2:52). He had the essential elements of human nature. He was body (Heb. 10:5), soul (John 12:27), and spirit (Mark 2:8). Jesus became hungry when he did not eat (Matt. 4:2). He became tired and asked the woman at the well for water to drink (John 4:6). Throughout his life on earth, Jesus was just as human as any one of us, subject to the same emotional experiences of sorrow, pain, and hurt which any man experiences. The willingness of Jesus to limit himself to becoming a man gives us confidence that he understands the affairs of our lives. “For we have not an high priest who cannot be touched with the feelings of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin” (Heb. 4:15). Because he has experientially known the frustrations of humanity, we have a “God of all comfort” (2 Cor. 1:3) upon whom we can depend. While those who deny his deity believe they are honoring Jesus Christ in calling him a great man, the Bible says he emptied himself voluntarily by accepting the limitations of humanity. Yet at all times he remained God.He surrendered the independent use of some attributes. Self-emptying took place also by the voluntary choice not to use certain of his attributes.

Power of the Holy Spirit

Perhaps the best expression of omnipotence is that of the miracles of God. Even though Jesus was known as a miracle worker, he performed those miracles through the power of the Holy Spirit (Matt. 12:28). He voluntarily laid aside his power to do them and relied on the Holy Spirit or the Father. On various occasions he made it clearly known he was doing the work of his Father.

“Then answered Jesus, and said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, The Son can do nothing of himself, but what he seeth the Father do: for what things soever he doeth, these also doeth the Son likewise” (John 5:19).

During his earthly life and ministry, Jesus was omniscient, but did not know the time of the second coming. He was omnipresent, but when he became flesh, he limited himself to being in one place at one time. He was omnipotent, yet he prayed to God to perform the raising of Lazarus from the dead. Jesus had not lost these attributes of God, but rather, in the process of emptying himself, he chose not to use his relative attributes.

Is TRINITY a human Invention OR God’s Revelation of Himself?

Can the infinite God become a finite being? Or God incapable of becoming a man? If God is all-powerful, why can’t he become a man?
Or is it a weird thing for God to become man? The Unitarians dislike the idea of God becoming man? Are they genuinely fearful that such an adventure from God’s part would deprive him of all his majesty and sovereignty? His omniscience, omnipotence, and omnipresence will be compromised?
How does it matter to us if God willingly loses his divine attributes in such an endeavour to identify with us.
If God in his love wants to identify with us to experience our frailty and sympathize with us, who can prevent it?
Would the infinite Spirit being God enforce his will and testament on the finite mortals without experiencing himself our limitations?

The human misery and death that we face in this earth can only be solved by God’s goodness to reach down to our level of existence by being a human being to identify with us, to sympathize with us, and rescue us so that we can be raised up to His level of existence wherein we can have peace, love, joy, and eternal life. This would be more of a divine gracious act from the Creator than the ego-centric righteousness of our good works. That is why salvation is free in Christian faith. God imputes to the sinner the righteousness of Christ and saves us free by his grace, because God is our Creator, and we are not voluntarily came into existence.

However, the Bible reveals a God who is constantly involved in his creation and man. He loves, judges, and redeems us because he is our Father Creator who made us in his image and likeness as his children to have fellowship with him. The law and commandments reflect God’s expectation of us to rise to his levels of righteousness.

Trinity in Genesis - Chap 1:1-2 In the beginning, Elohim-God (denotes a plural noun) created the heavens and earth……(verse 2) .. and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters. Here the two beings in the Godhead are revealed i.e. ‘God (Elohim) and His Spirit’ doing separate works. “Do we say “I built my house, and my hands painted it!. No. Genesis 3:15 “The seed of the woman will crush the head of the serpent..” In the first 3 chapters of Genesis, we can clearly identify the triune nature of God at work in creation of the world and human redemption.

Genesis 1:26 “Let us make man in our image. Is God speaking to angels or using a majestic plural? Has the omnipotent God sought of the help of angels in creating man? So angels and God are our creator? That belittles God! God created angels by his breath. Does God require angelic approval or support in making man? The Bible does not say so? The Bible says man alone bears the ‘image and likeness’ of God and not angels. Gen 3:22 “The man has become like one of us knowing good and evil.” The word used for “one” is echad, meaning a compound unity. In Eternity, before creating angels or man, God enjoyed a relationship of love and communion within Himself – with His personal Word and His Holy Spirit. (John 17:5). “How great is God – beyond our understanding (Prophet Job 36:26).

Hear, O Israel: “Yahweh Elohim Yahweh Echad” (Deuteronomy 6:4). Here Elohim is a plural noun and Echad is a compound unity denoting 3 or more members. You can check this in google.

Were the prophets of Torah fantasizing about God becoming man? Or these are clear prophecies given by Yahweh, the true God to his people Israel? However, God of the Bible being infinite and personal should reach out to us by means of his personal revelation viz., His Word, and through his Spirit.

Yes - almost all books of the Old Testament foretell the God of Israel coming in flesh a revelation of his redeeming love revealed in Jesus. If anyone thinks it is blasphemy to call Jesus God, then the large number of Old Testament prophecies about ‘Yahweh’ coming to the earth will contradict themselves and end-up as mere pagan myths of the Jews! (Or the alleged interpolations Jews made in their scripture to support incarnation of God- which is highly unlikely!!).

The monotheistic Hebrew prophets declared about “Yahweh’ coming to this earth over 300 prophecies in the (Torah) Old Testament which is none other than Jesus Christ.

Numbers 24:17 - "I see him, but not now; I behold him, but not near; A star shall come forth from Jacob, A sceptre shall rise from Israel, and shall crush through the forehead of Moab, and tear down all the sons of Sheth.”

Isaiah 7:14 - "Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign: Behold, a virgin will be with child and bear a son, and she will call His name Immanuel.”
Isaiah 9:6 – “For a child will be born to us, a son will be given to us; And the government will rest on His shoulders; And His name will be called Wonderful Counsellor, Mighty God, Eternal Father, Prince of Peace.”
Isaiah 11:1 – “A shoot will come up from the stump of Jesse; from his roots a Branch will bear fruit.”

Isaiah 40:9-10 “…say to the towns of Judah; ‘Here is your God!” See, the Sovereign LORD comes with power, and his arms rules for him….read verse 11.

Isaiah 48:16 reads “And now the Sovereign LORD and his Spirit have sent me with this message..” It is obvious that someone cannot be thought of apart from his spirit; yet a distinction is made. So already in the Old Testament we find verses that point us towards God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit.

Isaiah 50:6 – “The suffering Servant - I offered my back to those who beat me, my cheeks to those who pulled out my beard; I did not hide my face from mocking and spitting.” (Trial of Jesus)

Isaiah 53:3-7 – “He was despised and forsaken of men, a man of sorrows and acquainted with grief;
And like one from whom men hide their face; He was despised, and we did not esteem Him. Surely our griefs He Himself bore, and our sorrows He carried; Yet we ourselves esteemed Him stricken, Smitten of God, and afflicted. But He was pierced through for our transgressions, He was crushed for our iniquities….read until verse 7.

Jeremiah 23:5 – “The days are coming, " declares the LORD, "when I will raise up for David a righteous Branch, a King who will reign wisely and do what is just and right in the land.”

Daniel 7:13 - "In my vision at night I looked, and there before me was one like a son of man, coming with the clouds of heaven. He approached the Ancient of Days and was led into his presence. He was given authority, glory and sovereign power; all nations and peoples of every language worshiped him. His dominion is an everlasting dominion that will not pass away, and his kingdom is one that will never be destroyed.

Zechariah 2:10 ‘Shout and be glad, Daughter Zion. For I am coming, and I will live among you, declares the LORD….read verse 11-12.

Zechariah 9:9 : Rejoice greatly, Daughter Zion! Shout, Daughter Jerusalem! See, your king comes to you, righteous and victorious, lowly and riding on a donkey, on a colt, the foal of a donkey.

If you dont understand what trinity is :
You have a body, soul and spirit which has three different functions but all three of them is what makes up a PERSON that is YOU. In simple words you have 3 different elements and yet you are one in being.
THIS exactly is the reason why bible says that “ man was created in his likeness”
The term God in the bible is “elohim” which is plural in noun BUT singular in verb. This does not mean that we worship 3 different gods but reflects how our worship reaches god. For those who worship god shall worship him in “spirit”and “truth”. Who is this truth? Jesus is the truth. Because it is written “I am the way, “the truth” and the life. Nobody goes to the father except through me.”
This is its basic meaning. The word “trinity” is not found anywhere thoughout the bible. TRUE. But this is just a word used to define the three perons inside the godhead in simple language.

:5 For we preach not ourselves, but Christ Jesus the Lord; and ourselves your servants for Jesus' sake.
:6 For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, has shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.

In the book of Genesis 1:26, what's your comment about the statement, "let US make man in OUR OWN IMAGE, AFTER OUR LIKENESS..." ?

Islam is only anchored on the principle of; attack Christianity until Islam is the only remaining religion. Why all this hate and opposition to Christianity? We don't even mention Islam in churches. God's more important!
