People complaining about this camera's quality, battery, etc., are comical. You are buying an already cheap budget camera that you plan to sideload non-native software on, and you want reliability. Please, never enter the racing world.

About the body, my eos m dropped two times on the ground, one time on concrete one time on wooden floor from about 1.20 meter hight each time and I'm proud to state that my camera still workes like a charm.

For anyone that can not record continuously for some reason with the Sandisk Extreme Pro 95 mb/s card. Try changing the AccessMode from SDR104 to SDR50 from the SD Overlock submenu by pressing the play button. After changing it to SDR 50, restart the camera to let it apply the new setting. Then you should be good to go for continuous recording! I hope this helped!

I personally use it and it's probably one of the most underrated cameras for indies project

I bought the Canon M when when it first came out, and Youtube camera reviewers were bouncing on the camera comparing it to a DSLR. I paid $600 USD for it through B&H, it included the 18-55mm, and 22mm pancake kit lenses, 2 batteries, a charger, and 64gb Extreme flash card. It's been one of the best cameras I have ever owned. I've adapted 1970/80 Canon FD lenses to it, and a Hasselblad 80mm planar that makes mindblowing razor sharp shots and wicked bokeh at the same time. With Magic Lantern you can take pictures of lightning at night, (yet the reviewers claimed that the Stock M is slowAF). I'm thinking I've had my camera for at least 10 years, and each day I use it, I find something new or cool to do with it. It was one of the best camera purchases I have ever made. Absolutely no regrets.

Ad of this camera showing that it can use all other canon lenses captures my attention 10 years ago, proud owner of EOS M since 2015.

I've had the Canon EOS M for just over 2 weeks now. With Magic Lantern and Crop Mood, I've learned so much with such a tight budget. I am a complete beginner, other than recording video off my cell phone. The low cost of entry should be the highlight of what Magic Lantern is doing to the EOS lineup.

As a beginner, I would never catch myself investing $2k+ on a body, yet alone bring it to public areas to shoot. Maybe down the road when I understand lenses and how to effectively shoot scenes as intended, I will upgrade my gear. Right now, as a hobbyist, this experience has been humbling, but also fun. I bring my EOS M everywhere and I've finally picked up my first prime lens.

I am failing so much and have so many unusable clips, but I learn from those mistakes. The cropping is intense on many aspect ratios, but I'm enjoying the options and tweaking. I can understand the frustration of those who thought the camera would work with no hiccup, but eventually you find that aspect ratio & crop that you enjoy filming.

My endgame is to film my travels next year and I want to make it appealing to the eye. One of your videos help convince me to pre-order the M-lite last month and I hope to mod an EOS M soon to start working on a rig. Thanks for the inspiration.

FINAL EDIT: THE SD CARD WAS THE MAIN LIMITING FACTOR! MAKE SURE YOU HAVE A FAST CARD!

hey, i recently got this camera. people should be aware: the image stabilization on the kit lens causes the camera to bug out when taking video. ML refuses to record when it's attached, but the default firmware works fine. apparently, you can get around this by using a lens adapter, but i haven't tried yet. edit: switching from the build zeek links to a build straight from ML seems to have fixed the issue.

I’m big fan of this little monster camera. It’s been my lifelong dream to have cinema camera that can produce raw high dynamic range video to work with. But i’m not profesional videographer or a rich person. But with Magic Lantern on EOS M it was like dream come true to me. I’ve just learned to convert the raw files into Arri c log profile that I can grade in Da Vinci. And I can’t hide the excitement for the result, its sooo beautiful.

I think the long workflow is what gives Eos M Raw that ‘craftmanship’ feels. Its definitely not easy, but if you’re aware that you forging a ‘cheap’ thing into something beautiful, that’s where the statifaction comes from.

Interesting that people are still using this camera so many years after it was released. Took a look in my closet and yes I still have it with a few other compact larger sensor cameras. Now I have to charge the battery and investigate this magic lantern.

FOR THE LAST TIME. it does not record 5k its just called that beacuse it skips some pixels to make it anamorphic and use the full size of the sensor but it is not 5k. if you look at the resoultion youll know this.

I just bought one that's like-new for $80 this week. They usually sell for around $120 here in TW.

I took an EOS-M to Maui (Hawaii) as a travel camera. It has the newest Canon firmware and it works just fine. I don't have Magic Lantern. Viltrox made EF to EF-M adapter. I also have a M6II.

Regarding overheating: Don't expect it to record continuously in direct sunlight.
Also once it hits 50°c you can expect the recording to stop pretty much anytime

I’m sorry, I think the YouTubers who have success with this camera & ML like you, Deek, Cole, etc are blessed with survivorship bias. I bought this camera in January, bought the exact same sd card you have in this video, got a version of ML from January - and I’m not having much success with it.
Out of all the recording modes, only 1080p & 5k frtp work but even those modes are far from consistent.
Only about 20% of my clips come out without skipped frames. The 1080 mode looks terrible, much worse than non-ML 8bit recording. The 5k mode looks great but I get a totally random record length, anywhere between 2 to 15 seconds. It always crashes if I attempt anything longer than that.
I noticed you did your 5k recording test by leaving the camera recording a static scene. That won’t tax the sensor, cpu or ML code. You need to do a real-world test, outside in bright sun, tracking something that’s going in and out of shadow, to get highly variable bit-rate demands.

Overall I’m really unhappy with this camera and I speculate that the majority of people that try ML on EOS-M quietly give up in frustration and either sell the camera on or use it without ML as a decent pocket sized travel or street camera.

I’d be curious if you bought another EOS-M body whether you’d have the same results.
Again I’m only speculating but I think because these cameras were a budget offering, the build quality was all over the place.
