How does adding weight actually affect performance?

Well today we’re going to find out using Mat’s daily, the Porsche 911 Turbo S. We’ve lined up a number of tests to find out what effect adding weight has on the car.

We’re going to launch the car from 0-60mph and over the 1 /4 mile, do a brake test, a slalom and measure the car's economy. We’ll be testing with just a driver, with a single passenger, with three passengers and with three passengers with 150kg of weight in the boot!

How do you think the added load will impact the Porsche? Stick with us to find out for yourself!

One interesting test would have been to have just the two people adding 158 kg in the back seats on one run and another run with no one in the back seats but 150 kgs of ballast in the front trunk to see how the position of the extra weight affects the car

This car's legacy gonna stay for decades what a fine piece of engineering 👌

I’m shocked about 7l/100km.
Incredible for a super car.

I never expected click bait from this channel but that title is the definition of click bait. It wouldn’t be as bad if the thumbnail didn’t say “ruined” which implying he modified the car in a way that purists would label it as ruined. Doing some weight tests on the car doesn’t qualify as ruined or even remotely relate to the title.

I’m shocked at how little effect that extra weight has on the Turbo S, 150kg is roughly 330lbs(!) which is sure to change the weight balance significantly as is adding rear 2 passengers. What an amazing car 👍🏻

Quite impressed by the fuel economy in motorway. Never thought that a car of that kind of performance was capable of less than 25

This video just confirmed what we already knew - it’s an awesome piece of engineering and performs well above its already exceptional spec sheet.

33.7 mpg imperial is 8.38 l/100km. Still very impressive for such powerful car but a little more than 6.98.

Another reason why 911 is an amazing sportscar.

4 adults and 150 kilos of ballast! The 992 Turbo S is a proper beast. To think that its performance is not phased by so much extra weight is just insane.

As a big Mercedes fanboy, I must say, apart from Mercedes cars, this one is my favorite. It's just perfect in so many ways. Beautiful, fast, elegant, sleek, eye catching, just everything. Pure perfection

These weight comparison videos have been epic! Can't wait to see more like this, especially when changing more trivial-ish factors like tyres and drag! Keep it up Mat and team :)

man the 911 its such a technological marvel, it perfectly blends the lines between a mind boggingly quick supercar with a gt daily driver

a very good video for education purposes, now do the same test with a 2.0 hot hatch and lets see the major differences in performance in tests when you don't have a big power plant under the bonnet

I love these scientific weight vs speed videos! Mat make more videos like this one with more cars and SUVs!
