Ecosystem Services 101 with Hank

This week's theme is TEACHING! Ecology is a fascinating and complicated science. But if you mix it with the fascinating and complicated science of economics, you end up giving value to the things our world does for us.

Those things, in ecological lingo, are "ecosystem services" and you can actually put price tags on them. That's what I want to teach John about today.

From a B.S. to an M.S., I applaud you! YES! If only more people could realize that if we could utilize our resources naturally instead of turning to costly maneuvers that destroy and change habitat, there are so many more creative solutions that would help both the environment and man in the long run.

Louisiana is doing something similar to New York. Artificial wetlands are being built for water filtration purposes. This also is part of our coastal restoration projects.

This is probably my favorite Hank video in a while. I'm all for songs and punishment fun, but I really prefer these videos where you impart your wisdom in a well thought out, understandable way. I think this is why I usually prefer John's videos but, Hank, you really impressed me with this. Keep it up.

When I finished watching this, I said "I like this video. This is a nice video". And then my dad agreed with me, and said "I approve of you watching those videos" and I said "your disapproval would not stop me."

Wow! I am an Applied Economics and Management major, but I specialize in Environmental and Resource Economics. This is where we try to put dollar values on natural resources, so laymen can better understand why nature is so important. Hoo-rah for discounting (which is filled to the tee with errors).
