Hayden M6 BT07 Primary Chain Tensioner Install

Update!
This bike now has 83k miles. The Hayden quieted down long ago. It has run flawlessly since the reinstall.
Bike motor had a minor refresh with new cams, lifters, top end breather, etc. Motor noise much better and all is good for another 80k. 😚

Installation of a Hayden M6 BT-07 automatic primary chain tensioner. These devices provide smoother shifting and quiet the primary noise. They keep the primary chain properly adjusted unlike the Harley OEM tensioner that will not allow slack resulting in the chain being too tight. Having the chain too tight will result in abnormal wear on bearings, etc.
Bike is a 2012 Electra Glide.

excellent video! straight to the point, I like the zip tie! hack makes it easy to install. i bought a Hot bikes tensioner that i''ll be putting on next weekend so hopefully it will do its job and relieve stress on chain.

Thanks for the video. Ive got a manual, stationary tensioner in there now and no compensator, when the bikes cold everything is nice and quiet. 15 minutes of riding and its crazy noisy. I bought the Hayden M6 and its going in this weekend. Found your video and was hoping to see the bike run with it which you showed thanks for that!

Thanks Doug. Just installed the Hayden on my 2015 RGS. Much quieter. Appreciate the short, concise video.

Final update!
Bike now has 83k miles. The Hayden quieted down long ago and I haven’t touched it since.
It has performed flawlessly.

Update to my Update!!
I've decided to reinstall the Hayden. Going to try and quiet it back down. stay tuned and I'll try to update further.
Thanks for watching.
Update! Reinstall of Hayden. It’s just the best option there is. Every 8-10k I remove and inspect the shoe and the springs. Anal? Sure. But it’s kinda important and I like the piece of mind. And it’s EASY.
Also, I’ve installed a Darkhorse ManOWar Comp sprocket and trashed the HD SE junk compensator.
Love the ManOWar. Shifts are easy. Torque is great. And gone is all the click and clunk noise at stops. AWESOME.
Bought it from Kevin @ Baxter’s Garage here on YouTube. While you’re at it, subscribe to his channel. Kevin knows a helleva lot more than I do about engines.

What was your gap measurement? The instructions tell you that there is suppose to be a 3/8" gap between the bottom of the wear shoe and the tensioner holder plate/ bracket. Shims are provided in the package if the gap is larger than instructed. I am waiting on a response from Hayden as of right now because my gap is at 1/4" and there is no instruction as to whether that is okay

I was researching Hayden chain adjusters for my street glide and came across your video. I found a similar chain adjuster from Dasbecan and was wondering if you knew if they were the same product or same manufacturer or not? Reason I'm asking is I noticed pictures from your video are used in Dasbecan product from Amazon. Dasbecan Primary Chain Tensioner Adjuster Compatible with Harley Davidson 2006-2017 Replaces# M6-BT07
I'm just wondering if they are the same company? Thank you!

I installed one of these on my 2011 FLHPE Road King Police Escort last summer, 103ci/6 speed xnny.
I have to ask, why did you skip the clearance measurement check and included shim use if needed etc.?

Does have smoother shifting with less gear whine due to chain being not as tight as stock. However with aggressive riding and letting the clutch loose quickly, there is chain slap. FYI...

hey Doug I got a road king classic 2008 and when I start it it is ok only when it gets warmed up after a couple a miles and I turn it off. then when I start her up the starter hesitates a little it will start up. is that part of the tensioner does it need replacing.

I've fitted a Hayden primary chain adjuster, to a M8 107ci, without any shims, it is tight as hell, how do I slack off the primary chain. There is clearly no adjustment to loosen, just add shims to tighten

Will this get rid of the starter clunk
