In today’s episode I run through all of the gear and the app I use for live-streaming on YouTube. I also mention some alternatives to the gear and apps I use covering a wide range of price options.

Also, if you don't want a big microphone in the frame, that is perfectly acceptable. I'm not saying you must. However, since this is not a narrative film, but a live broadcast, it is generally considered acceptable for the microphone to show in frame. In fact, in some ways the very prominent microphone helps the viewers understand that this is a live broadcast in an unconscious way.

Probably the first video I came across on YouTube that doesn't have deafeningly loud intro/transition music. They need to watch your normalize and compression tutorial videos! Amazing work you're doing here. Thank you!!

Thanks again for your comments during the live. In case anyone’s interested to know this, if you are using Wirecast and you have a suboptimal MAC (I.e. don’t have high specs) you might be able to avoid too many dropped frames/excessive CPU usage by switching from X264 H.264 output to Apple H.264 . I went from 92% CPU to 50% on average by making that change. Edit: thanks for that clap tip! I didn’t think of that and it will come in handy for my darkroom streams.

Thanks for sharing with us Curtis, especially the audio side of things! Also absolutely love the idea of the ATEM Mini but it's been out of stock everywhere for a while.

Hi Curtis, thanks for your excellent videos. I have a question about a good sound quality setup for live streaming of DJ sets. I want to use 2 GoPro Hero 7, a DJI Osmo Pocket, a Sony A7 III and an Atem Mini Pro. My setup needs no Microphone. The sound comes from a Pioneer Mixer or a Native Instruments S4 Controller. How should I connect the Mixer / Controller to the setup? Ciao, Rainer

Good stuff. Still waiting for the ATEM mini to become available again.

Very nice overview, Curtis! And I wholeheartedly agree with the comment you made towards the end: live-stream is hard. Thanks for breaking it down for us.

Great video, Curtis!
For your overhead camera, do you have to flip your video 180 degrees? I cannot figure out how to do that on my ATEM Mini Pro. If you happen to know-how, that would be so cool to know!

Unfortunately the BM Atem Mini and the BM Mini Recorder only support HD not 4k. It seems to me 4k will be the common standard? Because there are cameras with 8k like the BM...what do you think?

Nice video Curtis! I didn't know you had a C200. Very cool. I have actually been using one of my c200's as my webcam with a ntg3 for audio. It's always nice when you show up to a zoom meeting looking and sounding extra professional.

That's a real nice setup Curtis. For my streaming audio I use a RODE Rodecaster in Stereo mode. I have an ATEM Mini, but since it is only really 1 camera for myself, I've never thought it would be much use. My streams usually involve bringing guests on and for this I use Skype video with NDI enabled. I then setup a shot in Wirecast for guest and myself. I switch between camera shots using Streamdeck. Wirecast is what encodes everything. I have an iPad as a shot too, usually slides from Powerpoint. I record locally to HDD. But with all of this going on I find that the Skype + Wirecast tends to really tax my system. Do you bring on guests via video? If so, how do you handle that?
