Unpopular opinion: Widows Vista is awesome, not only it modernize the UI, but the OS kernel itself was also modernized (like 64-bit support, overhauled control panel, universal search, modern device drivers, GPU accelerated UI, new DirectX). Basically, every OS after Vista is just a fresh coat of paint over Vista Kernel and few feature improvements. The main reason why people disliked it was the lacking driver support at launch, and the reason for its lacking driver support that Microsoft overhauled the entire way device drivers are written to be much more stable, a driver crash would rarely cause a BSOD, besides universal drivers and automatic search for drivers. It took several years before most devices got updated drivers to support windows vista, but by that time most people already had a negative image. Windows 7 is Vista with a new UI and new branding.

Congrats, Microsoft! As buggy as Windows can be sometimes, 35 years is a remarkable milestone. I mainly use Linux nowadays, but those old images brought back good memories, thanks ♡

No word of windows 2000? It was actually an important step in the 9x-XP transition

Windows ME still gives me nightmares. It was so unbelievably bad.

My parents got a new computer with XP Media Edition, and a voucher for Vista (which was due out a few months after they bought their computer). I don't think I ever unwrapped that copy of Vista that was sent and just went straight to Windows 7

I will never forget Windows 95 and how it revolutionized personal computing and internet usage.

you forgot windows 2000, it was not only server os, but before xp, many ppl myself included used it as home os, and xp came directly from that

Windows is like a family member to me. Sometimes it's crappy, but it's still family.

I did not see anyone who celebrates Windows 30th Year when they actually releases Windows 10 at that time, and marked "anniversary update" cuz they celebrates 1year of Windows 10 in 2016.

I've used almost every version since 3.11. XP, NT and 2000 were great.

That part with people lining up to buy Windows 95 is the one true part that made some random guy from that fruit company really green with envy.

Windows 95 was buggy as hell when it first came out

Was Windows 8.1 mentioned? I felt that 8.1 made Windows 8 more bearable.

Very nice video! I have all Windows versions in VMs from Windows 3.0 to Windows 10, except Windows 8.x, mainly because I never used it. I had also Win 1.04 and Win 2, but I lost those VMs, but I still have the floppy images, so I should reinstall them preferably on MS-DOS 3.3.

Unfortunately for Windows I moved completely to Ubuntu since 1-1-11. That is also the install date from my Windows XP Home Virtual Machine, that I still use from time to time to play the wma copies of all my old CDs and LPs with TrueBass and WoW effects :). That Win XP VM was installed on a Pentium 4 off-lease desktop and transferred to a Phenom X3 in 2014, Phenom II X4 in 2017 and now a Ryzen 3 2200G.

Vista wasn't slated for it's UI, if anything Aero UI was probably one of the most lauded things from Windows Vista

Microsoft should of made their own hardware from the beginning.
