My retired in-laws (the are not rich, just regular folks) recently bought a new Dacia for 11k Euros, now that cheapest model costs around 12k. Yes, that's a bit more, but I'm pretty certain it's a better option than LADA.

not true, this is not the cheapest car in EU ... my Lada Kalina II, year 2016 cost 6 000, - Eur ... greeting from Slovakia ... 🙂
