we made INSANE POWER GAINS: the ultimate big block tow rig

Показать описание
I was blown away by how much power and torque we gained from this gas burner big block, without adding boost. Just a few simple bolt-ons transformed this truck into its true potential with massive power and torque gains. This 8.1 liter 496 cubic inch big block chevy now will help the owner tow the trailer with ease.

What do you think about the numbers/gains? Did we "ruin" this as a tow rig? or improve on what GM started?

It's good to see some more head options for the 8.1

I was way off. I did not think it would gain that much torque at 3, 500 over stock. WRONG! Hats Off LT and Chris Great Job! I'm sure the owner is happy too!

Very cool that people are finally messing with the 8.1 on the gm side and the 6.8 v10 on the ford side. I think these ol truck engines are untapped potential

If it wasn't so expensive, I would do this to my 8.1L 2500hd. But, I am happy with how it tows.

Essentially a 155hp/180tq. some gain and flat curve. With heads cam and tune. Cool. Nice parts. She will haul..

Any chance we could get a ballpark cost of this build? Labor hours and material cost estimate? Just curious. I love the older trucks!

You guys did a fantastic job LT. Makes me want to build a 8.1.

I have an 02 8.1 crew long bed, except with 2wd and 6sp manual transmission. This definitely gives some ideas 🤔

Putty eraser - the kind of eraser stuff that you can mold into shape that will hold its shape - that's how you hold a pipe to a valve cover til its tacked into place. put that putty up into the tube and around the hole, tack it, take it out and re-use it over and over again for sticking two small things together to be welded or soldered or whatever without needing to touch it or get burned

Don’t think I’ve ever been this early on one of your videos. That’s impressive gains.

Some pretty good numbers! That engine must be making north of 500 at the crank!

I like this “spicy” side of LT!! Keep the videos coming!

Any time that you have the intake off of an 8.1 be damn sure to change the oil pressure switch whether it needs it or not. You don't want to do one with the intake me.

I have an 06 GMC sierra 2500hd with the 8.1 and Allison 6 speed. I did a similar build using all of the available Raylar components but used the milder BP201 cam. I also installed a set of stainless works headers built specifically for the vehicle . After the installation I had it tuned by our local tuner. I didn't dyno it but it runs substantially better than stock and has way more power. It's a much better tow rig now.

You should do some stuff with the new 6.6l gas.

The avalanche with 8.1 that was mentioned by the dyno guy may be mine. Just had it dyno after a build. It's a stage 2 with 4l85e, and naturally aspirated. It's a strong build with many upgrades. Without forcing air I feel it will be stuck on those low numbers.

My guess was 365 whp, 465 wtq! Great job LT!

had one exactly like that except it was a 06 with the double OD allison, 4x4, 8 ft bed, crew cab, and red paint job. Traded it in on a brand new ram 3500 wish i would of kept it and just paid the difference. Truck had only 59k original miles. 😪
