A few observations:

1. When working with the puppy on lead, I completely agree with reinforcing in the position you want them. My thought is, would it not have been more beneficial to be more direct in the direction you are walking? So the puppy will learn to move with you. Sharp turns without any sort of a signal to the dog would inadvertently place them out of position, where movement with purpose in mind may aid in the learning curve/concept.

2. When it comes to biting, with redirection for food, would this not associate biting pant leg = treat. As are other associations they make (behavior > consequence.) This also applies to picking the dog up, biting = person picks me up (can be seen as affection as a reinforcer). I like the comment on better reinforcers and ensuring proper stimulation prior to training.

By no means is this meant as negative criticism, only means to discuss behavior :) Keep it up.

We used this video this week with our 11 week old puppy. Worked great! He was walking on lead within a short time.

Here right when I need it! My puppy is a rescue and is very fearful of collar and leash so I bought a harness like a vest. I’ve made some progress..I’m potty training in our backyard with a fence. He still needs walks though

I got a lab puppy almost a year ago and was told by the trainer it would be a service dog. I brought the dog home at 8 weeks and cared for it 24/7 and got him potty trained. At about 15 weeks he went to the trainer for 4 weeks to learn basic obedience. When he came back home, the trainer said the 2nd and final round of training would be about 4 months later. 4 months came and went and after constantly calling, I got the trainer to take him back for round 2. The dog was returned about 2 weeks later with weight loss, a fear of his leash and no task to help me. It got to the point where the little energy i do have was running out and he is back now at the breeder i bought him from. I guess my question is should i let the breeder have him back or bring him home and try to make it work. Sorry for being long winded, but I wanted your expert opinion. Part of the adverse effects of my condition is severely diminished energy. Thank you. 🙏

My 14 month old GSD is coming along fine. She was cheated due to Corona lock down. My "REAL" problem is when we got to the dog park she goes absolutely crazy, so much I pt her back in the car. I have always remained calm and tried to get her to focus to no avail. Any suggestions or ideas would be appreciated. Yes I have tried the in and out of the car to see if she will catch on, no she just wants to go in and play. HELP

she shoud have focused on engagement exercise and leash pressure for puppy biting. :) just pop the collar little bit because it is not for chewing. don't forget to mark and price them after correcting. :) Am I right?

Wouldn't it be better to just turn your back to the puppy and stay still until he stops biting you (and reward when he stops for 3 seconds) ? I fear that picking him up would be some form of rewarding/attention for him, hence reinforcing him to try again to get your attention..

Wouldn't it be better to pop the leash to correct the behavior?? The only reason i ask that, its bcuz ive seen people's face get biten bcuz they tried to pick up the dog while he was on an excited state..
