Complex Borderline Personality Disorder: How Coexisting Conditions Affect Your BPD and How You Can Gain Emotional Balance. Available at:

The BPD Lens is a perspective that individuals with Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) develop, causing distorted views of themselves and the world. This lens influences negative beliefs, behaviors, and patterns, sustaining the BPD cycle. To challenge the BPD Lens, individuals must recognize and question these distortions, seeking balance and authenticity. This involves identifying negative self-perceptions and replacing them with positive, authentic views achieved through relaxation techniques. Although change takes time, resisting default thoughts and behaviors empowers individuals to build an authentic self-view, fostering personal growth and control over their world. Regular practice can lead to a more empowered and authentic way of approaching life despite the challenges presented by the BPD Lens.

If you want to learn more about your BPD Lens and your authentic view, check out my workbook, The Borderline Personality Disorder Workbook.

You are so kind to us with BPD. I have heard some very harsh and cruel things on YouTube while trying to research . These things have come from medical professionals and was left feeling even worse. Thank you for all you do and especially for your compassion .

I am almost 55 and post graduate educated, until about 5 days ago, I never once heard the term BPD. What everyone else had told me was depression, I accepted because I didn't know what else to call it. All I knew was the reading and research I was doing just wasn't fully describing me and what I was feeling and experiencing. I came across a psychology video where a girl described BPD. For the first time in my life, I found someone who was going through EXACTLY what I felt. I watched another video highlighting many of the symptoms of someone with BPD, and except for hallucinations, I experienced them all! Within a day, I found your videos.

As of 8/15/20, I have watched probably more than a dozen of your videos. They are really incredible, because it feels like someone actually "understands" me for the first time in my life (which been moderately long). Thank you. I am following and I am sure when I am finished, I will watch them all again. Keep up the great videos and the authenticity!

I see myself as... worthless
I see my partner as... amazing and too good for me
Word that fits me... pathetic
Something nice... I am loving
Balanced word... mediocre
I am not very good at this but I will keep trying.
My bpd lense told me I could never be anyone and should give up and with the help and support of my loved one I have nearly finished my study :)

I play French horn. It forces deep breathing. After an hour of playing, I feel so centered.

"When you challenge your bpd with change, it pushes back" biggest fact I've ever heard. I'm 28 and I'm just now starting to do some research on mental health and issues I've had for many many years. Of everything I've read and heard bpd is the only that seems to really fully encapsulate how I feel on a daily basis and I'm so glad I'm here now and starting to understand myself

I just realized watching this video what touches me in your way of talking about these things. Many people talk about mental conditions as "them" or "other" -orientation, which excludes from the group of "normal" humans, but you talk with an including orientation, you talk in a way that we are all humans and connected. That's a small but meaningful nuance for people who have experienced shame-causing trauma in childhood. I was drawn to watch your videos because they described so well some of my experiences from childhood even though I don't match the official or full criteria of BPD. I can relate to the core-trauma issues and your messages give me a lot of peace and help me to trust my abilities. Thank you for doing this!

Thank you. This is a MUCH better alternative rather than demoralizing shame.

Sometimes I wake up full blown in this lens and go full-throttle destructo-baby all day. This video helped me slow down my cyclical thinking and re-evaluate where I am going with my mental today. No more mental "jump-rope". Let's try something new. Anything but jump-rope. Lol

Thank you!

I was thinking as I was watching how these videos will be on YouTube for years to come and how great it is that your helping thousands of people and thousands more in the future by taking the time to make these videos. It’s truly a blessing for those of us who have BPD traits but can’t find a professional who wants to deal with it or acknowledge it. I hope the stigma the mental health care system has on BPD patients will change over time. I know of this stigma because my mother works as a psychiatric nurse at the 3rd top mental hospital in our country (USA) and she has told me that the “borderlines” are the worst patients because they keep coming back and theirs nothing they can do for them. How sad is that?!

Dr. Fox. Please talk about Borderline Personality Disorder and work/jobs. I’ve been countless times confronted about my low job performance. Like doing so well in the beginning and strongly deteriorate and lose motivation after. Despite trying again after many attempts, still get called out for mediocre efforts but you tried so hard. People just can’t see how hard it is for me. I tried so hard to fight everyday going to work. It’s like the same repetitive battle every single day.
