Sharon started smoking at age 13. In her late 30s, she was diagnosed with throat cancer. She was a busy mom with two children. She made their lunches, took them to school, and was active in parent-teacher groups. In this video, Sharon talks about finding a lump in her neck and being told it was cancer. Doctors treated the tumor with chemotherapy and radiation, and tried to save her voice box. But when her symptoms returned a year later, her doctor said removing her voice box was the next step.

My Mom used to smoke years ago. I think she started smoking when she was just a teenager, but really started smoking after she had me at 20. She quit around 4 years later around age 24, and she is now age 34, and hasn't had any problems since she stopped. I am very grateful to still have her, and I hope that she continues to have a healthy smoke free life.

My mom died form oral cancer even though she was a non smoker, non drinker, and healthy eater. Oral cancer and throat cancer can really fuck up someone's life. The saddest thing for me is that she lived her last few months in excruciating pain

"I wish I had recorded my voice before all...this, Because now all my grandkids hear is this." -Terrie

This quote I feel relates to this and made me really sad, so utterly terrifying and sad.

THANK YOU so much for doing this, Sharon! I don’t find it “terrifying!” I think it’s a blessing that you can still talk to your babies! Thank the Universe YOU are STILL here! Much love to you and your children!!! ❤️🌹❤️🌹❤️

People are so extremely addicted to cigarettes that even this video won't stop them from smoking. I had a co-worker that was so addicted to smoking that he tore up the workplace, and then went home and went through his whole house, and went and tore his car apart looking for a cigarette. I tried smoking twice, when I was younger, and it tasted like ash, and burnt my throat and I just didn't like it. I am so glad that I did not become addicted to cigarettes, since I do have a addictive personality.

I can’t imagine a doctor looking me in the eyes and telling me he has to remove my voice box.... It sounds horrible.

If she were to joke around she would be like "this place will commence self destruction in 20 seconds"
