Imagine if we hit an alien city with all that kinetic energy basically a big nuke and we started a intergalactic war 😅🤣

love seeing the earth shrink away like that! And the unreal acceleration from the Merlin 1D

Mission succes, dimorphos was successfully hit by the dart spacecraft only a couple of minutes ago.

anyone else wondering if there is a reason behind this launch that they are not telling us?
practicing asteroid deflection is worrying that they feel the need to do it now, and what aren't they telling us about what this could be, really?!?!?! just me then?

Thank-you for this. It is amazing that what was pure science fiction, & the subject of many "outer-space" movies up until a few short years ago, now & here's the first DART mission to intercept an asteroid. Absolutely magnificent. In the late 1960's I worked for the U.S. Army Missile Command at Redstone Arsenal, AL. We were so proud of the Saturn Rocket; but hardly even imagined what is now being accomplished.
What a wide-open, unlimited future for humanity.

It will alter the trajectory of the system MORE than if you hit the big one directly. After, the object is to ALTER the course as much as possible with a given craft weight.

Indeed, when the US deflects the flight of a celestial body in order to prevent the impact with the earth,
This deflecting of a celestial body
also changes the gravitational force system in the universe! This is good or bad no one can predict…
