Modern Black Friday sales are some of the biggest scams I’ve ever seen. No wonder everybody’s shopping online these days.

Black Friday ended when they started advertising sales. That killed it. Now it’s just another BS sports event.

in the EU we have a law that requires sellers to show the lowest price from the last 30 days, so you can see if it's really a promotion

My husband’s coworker started paying attention to a few places a few months before Black Friday and he saw that they slowly raised their prices so they could drop them back down to their regular prices or knock a few bucks off of it for Black Friday.

Go in January when the companies are panicking they haven't sold enough during December and trying to clear out last year's models.

I’ve avoided this for one simple reason: if I don’t need it, I’m not buying it. The price doesn’t matter. But when I was a teenager, shortly before everyone started buying everything online, I’d get up early on Black Friday and walked to Walmart just to watch the chaos that ensued. It was free entertainment (well, almost free; I’d buy a pack of gum for less than a dollar, but at least I did business with the store so I wasn’t actually loitering)

I noticed that at the Walmart I work at. I was putting gobacks to their places and looked at the prices of items in electronics. Because of the inflation, prices shot up. The trick that is played is that the Black Friday prices just get reduced down around the pre-inflation price, if at all.

One year I got all Christmas shopping done before Halloween. I kept receipts and logged every purchase. Come Black Friday i checked all the prices.
Had I bought all those items on Black Friday I would have spent $500+ more!
I literally told everyone I knew so they would realize Black Friday is a damn gimmick.

I, for one, am happy that the Black Friday Sale hype is dead. Thanksgiving deserves better than to be the herald of one of the most consumerist days of the year.

That's the sort of reason that I try to do my shopping throughout the year and have my Christmas shopping done before Thanksgiving. Less stress too by not having to rush around trying to find gifts during the holidays.

Bed Bath Beyond pulled this all the time. I stopped shopping there when I realized what a joke their Black Friday was.

I can’t tell y’all how absurdly happy it made me seeing empty stores on Black Friday, but empty of PEOPLE instead of trash merchandise.

I’m proud of you all. Never been to a Black Friday sale myself, and will forever remain pure.

What’s sad is that this ACTUALLY works because people are trained to expect sales at certain times so they don’t look for them at other times at the same rate enough to compare and realise it’s same prices when it’s those certain times like Black Friday

Keeping it the same price is pretty on par. Some stores will mark up the price and then say it is on sale at a lower price and that lower price is the original price before the mark up.

When the local K Mart shut down they brought in a team to relabel everything. As a regular customer I noticed lots of items that had been marked up for the closing. Btw the best time for good deals is the two weeks After Christmas.

Jokes on target,
some stores are smart enough to put the old flier in the backroom. 😂

The best time to buy a tv is late winter/early spring. That’s when the new models are typically released and you can get a year old one for cheap.

I see that happening all the time in the store I work in, at best they'll put a higher price for a few weeks then drop"" to the same as before

The deals just start earlier this year. They not the "same" as it was before. In prior years, they used to create derivative models of TV units just to afford lowering the prices. Now, they provide discounts earlier to avoid the ironic trampling of each other right after Thanksgiving. I prefer it the way it is now. People complain, but personally I'm glad no one is getting trampled anymore.

I noticed this decades ago. I always pull out the original price behind a sale price to see what it was before. Most items are not even on sale at all. Also, Kohls (and probably most other stores) have such great sales and you save more then you spend because they mark up their items so much to begin with but you’d never have to pay full price because that item is always onnsale or the plans is to keep it in some type of sale until it is gone from the store. So many things are never full price at kohls, however even the sale price is too high for the product.
