She has literal survival skills and is clever enough to recognize Toranaga operates in a similar fashion.

Gin is key to the story. Glad they included her…. She is proposing Toranaga build the historical Yoshiwara district in Edo.
He could be seen as trying to build something in Edo for his legacy….. and have her go there to select the land she desires, with the side mission of her to pass information to his forces in Edo that he is in jeopardy.

Gin is the true power broker in the show. This whole meeting is a ruse. Taronaga and gin share information all the time. The willow world IS his soy network. This scene is vital to understanding the story. Here Gin is officially telling him (in double speak) that his spy network can easily turn against him if he’s not careful eg. she can reveal his secrets. Or alternatively she can continue to spread the rumours he wants everyone to believe….. if only he commit to his promise of land in Edo. A masterpiece of story telling.
